I have bought a fly rod blank off the bay and am looking for some advice on locating the guides. It is 8’ 10’’ 3/4 weight 7 pieces. Each section is 16 3/4 inches long. My daughter is a senior in college and is constantly backpacking around in the NC mountains and I want to suprise her with it. I have made quite a few rods in the past but but nothing in such small sections.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
tape your guides on temporarily and string it— turn the blank with the guides up and bend the rod pulling the line—adjust the guides so the space between the line and the rod blank is about the same distance midway between the guides----the idea is to get an even stress on the blank
Here is a link to a great program which will give you a solid starting point to the Guide locations… http://www.farnorthrodsmiths.com/Downloads/GuideCalculator.msi
and the following link provides everything you need to fine tune the placement
