Little Tupper Lake Heritage Trout

Hey folks. I"m heading out in the morning to spend a couple of days paddling and fishing Little Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks. It’s home to a unique heritage strain of brook trout. No smallies, no nothing but the brookies. I’ve seen leeches in the water the last time I was there which was last July.

So… what flies would you toss?

I’ll try to get some photos to post. I’m looking forward to seeing some of these trout.

You don’t mind a little envy here do ya Diane?

This time of year, upstate New York? I’d go with my favorite all time…tiny black ghost streamer, about a size 10 or 12. Or any colorful wet fly, same size.

Well, I ended up a little bit east of Little Tupper on Follensby Clear Pond, Fish Creek, and Upper Saranac Lake. Not a lot of fishing but tons of paddling. Nobody was catching anything up there this weekend but I sure had some fun trying. Mostly I just loved solo canoe camping up in the Adirondacks for a few days. Everything except the part where I dumped the canoe and had to self rescue, bail out, and spend the night drying my clothes, money, and fly boxes in the campfire light. This, after about a 12 mile paddle in the wind. Still… way better than a day at work!

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-WOW—What A Ride!
