Just wondering if anyone with a Loomis Streamdance GLX High Line Speed 9’ 5wt. can recommend a good WF floating line. I will be going after trout with flies ranging from #16 dries to #4 streamers. I am thinking about a SA Trout line but am concerned it will be too light for a faster action rod. Any thoughts will be appreciated.
I bought the same rod about a month ago. I tried the SA Mastery Trout in WF5F. I really didn’t care for it. It just seemed a little “weak” once I got very far into the running part of the line.
I’ve also tried the Wulff Triangle Taper (floating) and I liked it better. I found it better for casting dries and mending while nymphing.
But still not quite satisfied, I recently bought the Orvis Wonderline (Gen3)DT5F and just put it on. I’m anxious to cast it and see how it does.
I also have the SA Mastery GPX, but I haven’t cast it on this rod yet. When I cast these other two lines, I’ll let you know what I think.
Thanks for the input guys. I had a feeling that the Trout lines might be a little on the light side. Has anyone tried a general purpose line like the Rio classic or the SA Ultra 4?
