Well put this week. I won’t go into detail because I’d just get all mad & political. But I think the tide is turning the right way.
JC,
I loved what you done to the hammer!!! You are amazing!!
Warren
Kewl hammer…as for the “Dust up” that occured here last week…I must have missed it…cause I am lost as to what was being reffered to there…Did get into a dandy Tying binge during this time though.
Don’t know if I’ll ever meet you two, but over the few years I’ve been here I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the bantering, the advise, the wisdom, the dreams, the swaps and so much more. This is our virtual fly shop, thanks to your sponsors and to the two of you. While it’s doubtful we could sit around a campfire along a cool river and debate without getting a bit anxious about our feelings, for my agenda differs somewhat from yours, LF and JC, I still love it that we can have this fun together. Just like being around a campfire. I loved both your columns this week. No one ever said we had to complete agree. No one said we’d every have to part ways. But we can sure have a blast discussing the issues. As long as we’re civil. JGW
Actually, I misspoke. It is NOT political. It is economic. It is Capitalism vs Socialism. Low tax state vs high tax state. Most dimocraptic politicians have become socialist. They are losing as more and more old Democrats have become or are voting Republican. God Bless Alexander Hamilton and Ben Franklin.
Truth make some people shiver…then they love to spin it. You guys hit it right every time!
Pete,
I think the tide started turning your way in the mid-sixties when the whole south switched parties, but it wasn’t for economic reasons. Also, the whole country had an ideological shift through the eighties. The modern “liberl” would have been more of an economic moderate in pre-Reagan America. And I don’t think anyone is really a fan of high taxes they just prefer it to the alternatives (ie. huge deficits).
AMEN !! Lady Fisher hit that just right…Brought a big smile to my face … remindes me of something the greatest lady I have ever known would say. Thank you.
The more time I spend around people the more I like my dog.

There was a day and time when one could respect someone of the other party like Scoop Jackson and Truman, but today, the respected people are few and far in between like Joe Lieberman. Whether one is of any particular party, we are Capitalists here in America. Now some have crossed the line. How many can respect people like Teddy Kennedy who is now trying to be the voice of morality in the Democratic Party? The Democratic Party is now formed by the Eurpoean Socialists like Soros who back it financially. The extremeist left blogs who back it with money and manpower. This allows mentally sick politicians like Al Gore (Narcicist) to get away with screaming crazy things and Dean with …just…screaming. There is a cadre of extremeists like Barbara Boxer, Schumer, etc who are simply anti-traditional American values. When their ideas cause the party in more moderate areas to lose, they become even more extreme. The traditional Democrats have not gone off the deep end. Their party has been stolen from them. It is now, more accurately, the American Socialist Party. It is anti-capitalist and anti-God. Its founding principle is killing babies. If you look at the principles of Socialism in the 50’s and 60’s, you will be shocked. It is anti-American and will suffer appropriately. It needs a wake-up call from its own party faithful more than them simply voting Republican. It is odd that these Socialists feel that they are so much smarter than their opposition when their political gods like Kennedy were caught cheating (twice) in college and Kerry had miserable grades in school…lower than Bush (same school and time) whom they accuse of being dumb.
Again, it is NOT political but economic. Old Europe has suffereed a similar fate. They have been taken over by Socialists. There, even their “conservatives” are Socialist. They are stuck with high taxes, 1% growth, 10+% unemployment…and they are unwilling to do what it takes to escape from that prison. We have low taxes, 4% growth, and 5% unemployment. Their unemployment is even greater as they do not count programs that “retrain” for jobs and their people retire much earlier than ours. They are hateful of America because although they consider themselves much smarter than us (sound familiar?), they are falling further and further behind. And not one country there could ever fight a war to defend themselves. China, Japan, and Korea, etc will far outstrip them economically in this century. At this rate, France will be accepting food from black Africa by the end of this century to save themselves from starvation. We don’t need the same thing in America. Teddy does NOT know what is best for us anymore than he can speak for the average Democrat on the issue of morality.
You got me going…your fault
Yes there are some semi-extremist on the left, but they are not socialist or anti-American. They just have a different view of American ideals than you. Lets not forget, the last democratic president that we had was for conservative spending and free trade while the current president has run huge budgets and tried to win votes with tariffs and other trade barriers. Which looks more like socialism to you?
I am also sick of the Republican party claiming to be the party of God. Republican policies draw more from Ayn Rand books than the Bible. I actually think that on most issues the Republican platform is almost opposite of actual Biblical teaching. WWJD? on the environment, aid for the poor, foriegn policy, civil rights . . .
The one glairing exception may be the abortion issue which you mentioned. But even that issue is more a matter of definitions of personhood than religious belief, and its hard to take any lecturing on the sanctity of human life seriously from a group of adament death penalty supporters.
Blake, With all respect, it is the Dems who put that lable on the Reps in an effort to make them ALL look far right. We just had Hillary make a very racist statement to do with "plantation’ and a “you people” and not a word in the news. If a Rep had said it a apology and resignation would be demanded and it would be on the National news every night for weeks…Don’t you agree?
Blake, I am so relieved for your information that there are only “semi-extremists” on the left. I must have been misinformed. I had heard that Cindy Sheehan (who has now abandoned her SECOND child), Michael Moore, Gorge Soros, Teddy Kennedy, and the Move-on.org crowd were downright leftest rear teat suckers. As for Slick Willy being for conservative economics, you don’t think that may have been due to the Republican controlled Congress do you?
In any event, I sincerely thank you for your information and shall store it in an appropriate place.
Mantis,
It was a stupid thing for Hillary to say, it has been all over the news, and Newt made an almost identical comment ten years ago and never apologised or resigned for it.
I fully understand that people on both sides try to make their opponents look like extremist. Thats how politics work–straw man arguments and a race for the middle around election time.
Pete,
For every Cindy Sheehan ther is a Pat Robertson. For every Michael Moore there is a Bill O-Reilly. For every Soros there is a Haliburton. For every Ted Kennedy there is a Tom DeLay . . .
And if it was the republican congress driving the prosperity of the 90’s then I wish they would remember exactly what it was that they were doing right back then.
Hi Blake,
Not on the news back here other than a quickie statement…Not dragged on for weeks, every night…
I’d still like to fish with you buddy!
Listen to this: If you watch the movie Ferenhite 9/11 and look at the credits, you will see my son’s name as the assistant film editor! (same name as mine, he is the III) LOL.Boy did I get ribbed over that as soon as someone noticed it…and there is no one in the world I would rather fish with than my son!
