Learned a 'new' technique

Fished in a new steam this past weekend(and a month earlier). It’s not far from where we usually fish but water is high on that river so we went elsewhere. Not knowing this stream we consulted the local shop and the guy sold us some flies he said would work and how to fish them.

On our other stream the fish hit mainly on drifting flies fished about 2 feet deep or so. They will rise to dries but not all that often. They will hit stripped buggers sometimes also. But usually it’s soft hackle emergers they like.

This other stream you couldn’t get them to hit anything like that. They like this other fly, basically a wooley bugger with sili legs drifted, but swung across the stream. Basically you couldn’t miss doing this…but you couldn’t buy a fish on a dead drift. BTW this stream has crawfish in it and the other does not.

Funny how fish act completely different from stream to stream.

Bottom line is …

OK, I’ll bite. Why would you assume every stream is the same?

I think he is probably asking himself the same thing.

Pfffff! Put a fly on a line and you’re bound to catch something!

O…K. Didn’t say I did. Just remarking on the difference of streams not far apart.

Would really like to see a picture of that fly. I have a stream that stumps/skunks me a lot.

Thanks for the picture Big Wulff.
