I have a 6 wt rod and will be using it to fish bass and panfish. How long of a leader and how long of a tippet should I put on it?
I usually tie my leader and tippet to be about the same length as the rod - more for convenience than anything. Maybe a 7.5 foot leader w/ about a 2.5 foot tippet. I fish more for trout than panfish though, so maybe the panfishers will disagree with me.
Sounds good to me…I fish for whatever is hitting…or that will take my offering I should say,Mostly Bass and Panfish. But I don’t buy “regular” leader and tippet material anywho. Not even when I’m fishing expressly for trout still use a tapered knoted leader of regular Mono fishing line…I do know that for a shock tippet Berkley Fireline is awesome all the attrabutes of wire (strenth,No stretch, and very abraison resistant,But does’nt kink and coil as wire does) Love fishing for Pike,Pickrel, and the occasional Skie
“Wish ya great fishing”
Woolly…I’m a panfisher & your setup is very similar to mine…generally a 6’ tapered leader & 2-3’ tippet. The other way I’ll go is a 9’ tapered leader & when I work it down a couple feet, I’ll add the tippet.
