Jeffro, Friday was your posted shipping deadline, anyone hear from Fly Flicker? is he still in the swap?

FF if you dont have your flies done just go buy them, Jeffro will never know since his eyes are so bad!!! They must be if thinks mine are that great!

LOL…I havent heard a word from fly_flicker in a long time now… so if he doesn’t post by friday I will get this thing wrapped up…
CaseyPs’ flies should be here soon.

When you do a swap? Do you tie just one fly or do you tie one for each person in the swap? Sorry if this seems like a silly questions but I couldn’t figure that out based on the swap directions at the beginning of this forum.

Thanks!

Karli-Rae

Hi there AlbaSurf,
Normally, alotta hosts or Meisters post what they will send to each participant, usually just one.
So far everyone has sent out 2 which was nice of them and some very hansum flies ta boot…and very thoughtful of the tyers.

I am sitting at my vise all the time cuz I am crazy about tyin flies…when I host i like to do it texas style and I usually do !!!
I posted that if I can,I will keep on tying until all the swappers packages arrive here to me.
If someone wants to lash up only one, thats fine…cuz thats the agreement anyway in most cases …but i just like to send out more than one.
Why send just one fly across the continent when I can double up?
To me its worth the effort to make somebody I’ve never met >happy with a hook and some effort!!!

I’ve seen alotta Hosts be all serious and act like Drill Sargents or Trolls and to me thats not any fun at all.
we have one that hasn’t updated since he joined…so we will probably be a NO Show…he will miss out on some Cool stuff.

Not to long ago, I tried to get into a swap, I tried to change my mind on which fly I was gonna tie…he shut the swap down cuz he wanted show everyone he had the authority to do that …which was his way of treating strangers…A Troll pops into mind
So yes I like to have fun with swaps and give more than I receive and not hurt anyones feelings or make em look bad for the world to see.
I have rambled long enough.
Do you sit with your Vise much?

Generally a swap is “x” amount of swappers (usually 6 to 12 or so) and you tie up 1 for each swapper. 12 people sign up, you tie 12 (one for your self).Everyone sends their flies to the swap Meister (the leader of a particular swap) the Meister divides them up and you get 12 different flies back (one from each other swapper).
2 schools of thought on the total number to send in. Some swap Meister’s/master will have you send in 12 each (assuming there is 1 Meister and 11 swappers) and you’ll get one of your own back.
When I Meister a swap of 11 plus me, I only ask for 11 and you don’t get your own back. In that case tie one for yourself, but keep it. It might be a bit easier when dividing them up, but I don’t see the point in sending one in just to get it back. Just my opinion. With bigger flies this can mean more or less postage.

The first thread(sticky) at the top of the Swap forum has posts from many members with the most common rules.

This is a recent post on just toe tags.

Start at the first post in several threads, generally the first post will have the rules posted for that particular swap. As a swap Meister it’s your swap, hence your rules.

Bass bug,

Thank you so much for your very helpful explanations!

Jeffro,

I do, in fact, sit with my vise quite often! At least an hour a day. Over 5 hours today since I didn’t have work and it was storming outside. I’ve tied about 30-35 flies now I think, and I haven’t yet repeated a pattern. The idea of making 12 of the same seems like it would take forever! But I suppose you get faster at tying them as you go on.

Karli-Rae

AlbaSurf,
I’m sure if you ever get ready to join a swap it would be alright so just speak up when you get ready.
bet you’d do fine …the 1st is like your 1st dance on the dance floor…don’t be shy just jump on in…it’s addicting.
Glad to see you enjoy tying…its good for relaxation as long as ya got some good music on…
I like to listen to jazzy blues or its not much fun for me.

Ok Folks I received CaseyP’s Flies today and she did a fantastic job…Thank you Maa’m !!!

Now …It looks like we are gonna have to sick my dog on fly_flicker cuz he hasn’t posted any updates whatsoever in almost a month…
I understand he is in the Armed Forces and is working hard to serve our country so we should be forgiving of his lack of communication.

We may be one person short …if he doesn’t reply by Friday at midnight,I will have to ship these wonderful flies out at lunch Monday 7-12-10.
Its been big fun for me this go round…Thanks to all of you for your Kind enthusiasm and Fantastic flies and goodies as well !!!

jeffro,
be sure to keep the extra fly if fly_flicker doesn’t show.

CaseyP it doesnt look like fly_flicker is gonna post anymore so I would be proud to keep it… ya done a Fine job on your Flies and you were so worried,Bless your Heart…Those kind of eyes are tough to get right…I have to use a magnifier headpiece…everyone will love em.
Thank you for doin such a Great job

Anyone want to post some pictures of these marvelous-sounding flies? Seriously, they sound so beautiful even MY mouth is watering!
It’d be awesome to see what people were tying.

Karli-Rae

AlbaSurf it looks like we are gonna have an extra slot if you would like to take it,you are more than welcome to fill that spot.
This will be a good oportunity for you to get into your first swap…just send me 5 minnow or shad patterns of your choice…nothing fancy just keep it simple.
I will send you a PM with my mailing address if you are interested.

OK ya’ll…here’s the deal…
Since we havent heard from fly_flicker lets give this spot to AlbaSurf…we have abit of time.
I spoke with her and invited her to do this and she agreed…this will fill a void spot and everyone will get some very cool stuff…
be sure to send a 10 x 13 or so Bubblepack cuz we have some large flies headed out

Jeffro your inbox is full.

I’m trying to decide between going with muddler minnow that was spoken for or a flatwing streamer. Which do you recommend?
Also, for those in the swap, any preference?

Do I have to tie a well-known pattern? May I tie a creation of my own as long as it fits into the streamer/baitfish category?

Tie whatever you are comfortable with in the general category. You own pattern is absolutely acceptable. Artistic license is common in fly tying. However if you change a well know pattern, dont call it just by the pattern name, say “My version of the ____________”.

If you tie an Adams with a red hackle instead of Grizzly, then technically it’s no longer a true Adams. But it could well be YOU’RE version of the Adams.

Jeffro, Did I or did I not recently explain ways of keeping your inbox clean? And I believe you even commented on the tip. So I have to ask, did you really read my tips?[More](javascript://)

Sorry about that…I suppose i been slackin off on the job…I just cleared it and off work till monday.
AlbaSurf …Bass_Bug is correct and I appreciate him being here with us…he as walked with me ever since I got my 1st computer and logged onto my 1st fly tying forum back in 2003 or 4 so when he says sompthin I agree so yes…tie anything you want to and just keep it simple for you so it wont take to long…
I’m sure everyone is getting anxtious…ankshus…cant spelll it I am tierd…tired oh well time for shower and get a gripe, grip …you know what I mean…lol

OH yea Thanks Bass_Bug for coverin 4 me Amigo
