Looks like a few of us got the right idea and made it out to Alaska recently for some outstanding fishing. I’ll give you a short recap since the link below is from my buddy in Anchorage who posted alot of our trip on an Alaskan Fly fishing forum.
We fished the Kenai Peninsula all the way down to Homer. Bodies of water included the Russian, Kenai, Anchor, Ninilchik and Deep Creek. Fish targeted, or unfortunately caught ie: “Reds” included Coho, Rainbows, Dolly’s, Pinks, & Steelhead
While we used Egg patterns most of the time I used my Swinging addiction -sorry fellas not that kinda swingin but with Egg sucking Leeches kind to rip a bunch of Silvers, Steelheads and everything else man what a feeling to have them grab this and run!

I started out with a guided day trip on the Kenai and had a blast catching close to 50 fish that day…okay we parted the Red sea but many non-sockeye fish saw the bottom of my net.

First Cast of the day lands this Beauty on the Anchor River, funniest part is that 5 guys asked me how to fish this I said your guess is as good as mine seeing how 2 guys owned an Alaska fly shop in the Puget sound area, those 5 caught 6 all day I landed 7…what beginners luck :why:

Craziest thing to happen on my trip (besides freaking forgetting my license in the other pack on the last day and getting ticketed for no ticket in hand) was a Bear encounter, we pulled up on an island and my buddy went to the woods to go to the bathroom when I turned to my right and a Big Brown bear was 30 feet from me & closen in…I yelled Be…Bea…Bear!!! He stopped and darted into the woods where my buddy Narwhal was in his path…boy did he run and piss all over himself

Awesome trip, great weather, Fall Foliage, only 30 minutes of rain while fishing the whole time, few crowds in Lower KP, not to expensive and booking my trip for next Summer very soon~
