Great, link, Doug!
Of course, this hit all of our “local rags” down this way…anything to “promote more tourism”, naturally!

Every time I see/read, an article like this one they always remind me of all the fishermen I’ve run into that ask me… “Man, WHY do yo live at the COAST? There’s no good FLY FISHING, down there anywhere, is there?”
I just, usually, shrug and tell them, something like: “Well, it beats fighting Washington County traffic and once in a great while, I’ll drag up something with a fly!”

Of course, neither do I tell them that there are 11 lakes within 10 miles of my front door, 3 rivers and in 9 years here, myself, I’ve yet to fish all the little streams coming down out of the Coast Range mountains!?!

I’m guessing, too of course, but from that posted picture, the logging road he’s on, I’m betting he was on the upper Nestuca somewhere!?

flybinder,
I have been on the upper Nestucca, but not on any back roads. This guy using a Spey Rod on a small? stream kind of changes ideas about where? you should use a Spey Rod. I think he is using the Rod because of limited back casting room and he is targeting Salmon. It must have felt good knowing he had a long rod with that fish.
Does anyone know what Rod, Reel and Fly that is???
Doug

Looks like a yellow and white-bucktail clouser, but I don’t know about the gear otherwise.

MOturkeE,
Thanks! Do you think the Fly has lead barbell eyes?
Doug

I think so, looks like they painted them white with red center dots, to me.

That Fly is going right under the Photo and on the wall?
I’m glad John enclosed his whole Story with his Photo.
Doug

That reel sure looks like my Orvis Mach Large Arbor!?
The cuts on the spool and the easy grip style handle look just like the Mach!?

Doug, I can’t imagine anyone using a spey outfit as far up the Nestuca as he appears to be, but then too…
He may NOT be on the Nestuca and I’m sure not going to second guess the fishing tactics of any one that’s landed a fish like that, anywhere! ha!

That is a very nice fish.

Yep, It’s a chartruese and white Clouser minnow, You can catch everything on a Clouser!

I would also bet that it is a Orvis Mach large Arbor. Looks very familiar.
