I took my little boy fishing the other day. He chased minnows, threw rocks and got hung up on ever other cast. In other words we had a great time. ![]()
We did come to a pretty deep hole in the creek where I caught the best small mouth I’ve ever caught out of that creek. Standing on the bank AJ cast to the far side of the creek. I told him to reel it in slow, and sure enough he yelled excitedly, “Daddy I got one!” I seen AJ rare back on his rod and it bent way over, my first thought was he caught a carp as there are some fairly large carp in the creek. At just that moment I had a bite. I turned to my fish and told AJ to “reel him in” In a few moments I had a nice little sun perch landed and then I heard AJ yell, “It’s pulling me in Daddy!” For a fleeting moment I remember being puzzled and thinking, “pulling you in???” I turned and he was bent over at the waist, his little arms out stretched as far as they would go. His rod was bent more than I had ever seen it and his line was tight. I reached over and took hold of his rod and said “AJ you’re hung.” There was so much tension, he could barely push the button on his Zebco. The excitement on his little face and turned to complete dissappointment in a flash. Then, quick as a flash a little spark came to his eye and he looked up at me and said, “Daddy I almost pulled myself in, didn’t I?” I could see he was interested in this prospect, and much more interested than he needed to be.
I’m not sure if he was more disappointed at not catching his “big fish” or not getting pulled into the water. ![]()
