Interesting Fly Tying Web site ...How did they do that?

I may be out of the loop because I don’t look at too many fly tying sites until the dead of winter. I just stumbled on this really cool one. http://www.flytyingclips.com/index.html

I would just love to know how they did that. Enjoy.

It’s all in the software which typically runs $400-800. You shoot a series of still pictures of the object as you rotate it and the software ‘stitches’ the pictures together to make the image. Some will even do up-down as well as around. It then creates a Flash viewer file that can be loaded on your web page for others to see and manipulate. That’s the simplified version of how-to.

I can’t believe an engineer said that so succinctly. Good job!:stuck_out_tongue:

It was a struggle Joe. The first version consisted of 8 pages of specifications with another 10 of description. It’s all in the editing.

This is the guy who makes the clips for the site;

…that is possible, BUT…
I currently take a picture at every 5 (or 10) degrees, which is 72 (36) pictures.
To do a full 360 x 360 I would then need to take 72 (36) pictures at every 5 (10) degree point which is over 5 thousand (2500)frames, not to mention the download time.
That is not the hard part. The issue is how to mount the fly without having to retouch every frame.
I have done a full 360 x 360 view but that was with virtual object.
I have thought about changing the angle of the fly as I rotated it around. Or maybe just providing a top and bottom view of the fly, but that would be boring.
I’m up for suggestions. I just thought this would be a fun thing to share.

This thread got me to thinking (dangerous) and I had a few minutes to spare, so here’s my poor man’s version of the 360. It’s basically a .gif file created in Jasc Animation Shop out of 39 photos of a fly I took. The light varies a bit since my tying bench is next to a window and it’s daylight outside. Not high quality, but an interesting experiment.

Just dandy. I use animated gif’s here often. They can really get the job done sometimes.

I LOVE IT!!!

Well I wonder how long it will take me to not be able to stop my nature to see about that my self. Maybe I can keep from doing this, but that is not a final word for sure. bang_head_2.gif
