Inherited rod

I have a rod that is a “PLATCOR 7070; Omaha, Nebraska 8”. Is anyone familiar with this name? I think it is a 8’ rod.
I also want to change the handle grip, it currently has a black foam grip on it.
How do I go about doing this :?:

I’m not familiar with that rod rzh, but I would guess that a fly rod with a foam grip might not be a quality rod.
To change grips is as involved as any rod repair can be.
First the the foam grip would need to be cut off along with any stripper guides above that. Any glues residue would then be removed. A cork grip would need to be reamed out to size and fitted into place by sliding it down from the ferrule. It would then be glued in place.
Any guides that were removed would next need to be rewraped and a finish applied.
As you can see this is a lot of effort and may not be cost effective.
I recommend that you fish the rod as is for now, you can alway do the work down the road if you think it’s worth while

Thanks, I think I’ll see it for what it is, Inherited. It had an old blue “Mohawk” automatic reel that I had long since removed. Well, I’ll put then back together, hang them, and fish the 6wt (Scientific Angler) I recently bought and look to purchase a 7 or 8wt something in the near future.

Thanks Again
