While there is a difference in fiber length between the two, the premium craft fur comes close to being long enough for most salt water flies. How can the huge difference in cost be justified unless it’s just snob appeal. Help me to understand this.
I have both materials, and enjoy using both. I never knew there was any snob appeal with it. I like the way the Icelandic Sheep Wool moves in the water a little better…but I make different flies with each material…and they are different for sure. It just depends on your personal preference. ![]()
I’m pretty much with Kelkay on this one. I have and use both materials and I’ve never considered one to have snob appeal over another. I use the Icelandic Sheep hair for longer streamers 7-8 inches and polar fiber for most of my other baitfish patterns. When it comes to synthetic fur, I’ve found Polar Fiber to be far superior to any of the others I’ve used. Just one man’s opinion.
