I Need a New BWO Emerger Pattern

My cripple doesnt seem to be doing it anymore. Does anyone have a good Mayfly Emerger or more specifically BWO emerger. thanks.

Even though it’s a cripple, this one worked for me:

Here’s the video by someone who knows a thing or two about them.

Craig Mathews also has an emerger video that may work for you (I don’t have any 1st hand experience)

and Kelly has an excellent one, too:

There a couple of them in here:

That 2nd one is pretty cool. I hate foam though. I bet a guy could substitute some CDC and it would work good.

I forgot Wally’s Purple Haze, which is similar to Mr. Mathews foam emerger:

I would think you could easily sub CDC for the foam, but think of all those ducks with frozen fannies.

Swing the palm emerger like a wet.

So … what pattern were you using that doesn’t seem to be doing it anymore ?? And do you have any thoughts as to why it isn’t working for you after how long ??

John

It is kind of like a Quigley Cripple but with my own modifications of course… i will try and get a pic when I get home fm work.

There might be one or two good ones in HERE:

PT/TB

What’s the difference between a Klinkhamer and a parachute emerger? Just size, and the fact that they were designed to imitate caddis?

The link Scott posted is the changeup fly to this, which is always my first choice when BWO are around:

The LTD is my favorite Emerger for most any hatch.

Thanks I forgot about the RS2… I even have a bunch of those tied up somewhere in my room…lol

I’ve had very good success with the following:

Mustad 3906B or equal size 18 or smaller
Olive or whatever thread something that blends
Woodduck flank tail
Pheasant tail body ribbed with fine gold wire
Couple of turns of grizzly hen hackle

Rather simple…but isn’t that usually best?

Is black polypropylene yarn the same as the black EP Fibers?

Bruce,

Tied it with black Congo Hair; the only difference I’ve found between it and EP fibers is price (Congo Hair is about 1/3 the cost).

Scott

Hi,

Personally I would try a soft hackle, something like a size 16 snipe and olive, or moorhen and olive would be worth a shot. John Scott has tied an olive version of a water cricket which he reported was good during BWO hatches. I submitted the water cricket as a FOTW a few years ago and you can find it in the archives.

njtroutbum, that is a slick desk and looks “store bought” - did you get it in a store?
