I just tie up a bunch of pheasant tails to replenish my supply. When I was finished I tied a bunch of small elk hair caddis.
I can’t remember the last time I tied a prince nymph…
I just tied PT Nymphs, but (as usual) I changed something. I used a tail feather from an African Grey Parrot. I now have a #12 and #18 BRIGHT RED pt nymph. Maybe it’s an AGPT Nymph now. I can’t wait for the 'gills to see it.

Just tied up a bunch of my “Rojo Caliente PT Nymphs” for my fly box !!! Need to crank out some beadhead PT’s also. I use both patterns a lot !!!
The pt is one of my go to flies have several different colors there all bead heads.
…when I last tied a steelhead fly…
how’d this turn into a pt nymph thread?
I didn’t say I can’t remember the last time I fished one. I’ve got a full box devoted to pt nymphs, which is why I’ve no need of tying them.
nor can I remember tying a traditional elk hair caddis. there are other patterns I prefer.
I don’t remember ever tying an Adams.
Adams with white hackle tip wings -yes.
Adams Parachute -yes
Adams Wulff -yes
But a traditional Adams, don’t remeber…
P.T.'s I tie at times.

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best
Everyone wants to excel in this sport but at the same time we let traditionalists place restrictions on our tactics, methods, and ideas. I always assumed that fly fishing was a sport that allowed imagination, creation, adaptation, investigation, dedication, education, revelation? : Fox Statler, On Spinners (Not the dainty Dry Fly kind) “Spinner’d Minner Fly”

I tie 1 or 2 dozen every winter, mostly in 18 and 20. It’s my goto dropper fly.
Every year after steady fishing for months on end when I want to warm up again at my fly tying desk which I have totally ignored, I will tie up 60 or so Frank Sawyer style PT nymphs. Just wire and PT. Gets my fingers working again and gets me in a tying mood.
I really don’t use the PTN or GRHE much because the Black Marabou Damsel Nymph that I use in size 10s and 12s work for the natural here. The fish love that little nymph. Its another great pattern that Al did.

No, because I have been too lazy to tie lately. But the last time I caught a steelhead on one was 26 December 2005, which was, coincidentally, the last time I flyfished.

I found another Damsel Fly nymph. This one uses rabbit fur rather than marabou.

About a year ago…tied some bead head PT nymphs on barbless hooks.
The local fly fishing club passes out fly boxes to anybody willing to tie for them. Fill the box with whatever you want and hand it back in.
The boxes end up in the fund raising auction at the annual dinner where the new officers are installed. Everything I tied for my box last year was on a barbless hook. PT nymphs were part of what I included (I don’t recall all of the rest though it probably included some foam beetles and a couple other favorites).
My tying desk is blocked right now due to a remodel at home that just won’t end. So, no donated flies from me this year (oops). I’m hoping I can excavate my desk before fishing season starts in earnest.
I have a few new flies (new = not what I normally use) that I learned from a guide last Fall and I definitely want to add them to my regular selection.
