Does anyone know any good sites that offer free how-to videos? Every time I think I have it pretty figured out, I come up with not so much as even a bite. Hopefully, there are some sites that have instructional .wmvs or .avis? I don’t know, any help would be great.
What are you looking for in downloads?
Knot tying, fly tying?

Thanks for all the help, you guys are always very helpful. As soon as I read the first reply yesterday, I got so embarrassed that I thought I surely wouldn’t say anything. But, I really wouldn’t learn anything doing that, so here goes.
It wasn’t tying that I need help with. Although that is certainly rising an interest, I think I should be able to catch a fish before I can tie flies. I’ve watched Outdoor Life Network and fishing shows, but that stuff seems so fake - I mean, it makes it seem so easy to catch fish. How come I can’t do it? I can see huge trout sitting in channels between the cress, and do everything I can think of…glide a stonefly emerger down the current and let it pass over the fish, plop a small emerger down right in front of the fish, skim a nymph along the bottom, I’ve tried everything. Zero results. Talk about frustrating. So, as embarrassing as that is, can anyone help? Thanks.
You cannot learn what you do not know, if you never ask a question!
Lot easier to ask a question, and avoid making countless mistakes, until you finally learn.

LetortRun, you are not alone! Most of the time it seems as if everyone on the river is catching fish but me. I read, practice, fish, etc but with little result!
I ain’t gonna give up, though. If I can land one or two trout in a day on the river, I am happy. I keep the attitude that I am out enjoying myself away from the “work a day world of reality” and if I land a fish that’s just lagniappe.
If I remember correctly, I came across some animated sites (Orvis sponsored, I think) that I linked from FAOL.
BTW, this month marks my first full year FFing.
Hang in there, buddy…it’ll come together one day.

Jim,
Thanks for the encouragement! Sometimes, it’s not so embarrassing when you know that you’re not alone. Do you know where I can find those links?
Man, don’t feel naked cause yor not alone. It’s rare from what I’v seen for beginner fly folk to catch 'em right away, unless someone holds there hand if I may. When you are alone learning, you read a book on (lets just say tying flies) and in the book they describe fifty flies and you notice they say that ALL fifty are great trout catchers…“G” They are selling a book, and what may work for them may not work for you. So in short what I’m trying to say is, when alone, go slow, pay attention to what’s going on around you. You’ll be watching those fish and think, ya know that fly I fished the other day rides the water about as deep as them fish are eating, tye it on and cast, sooner or later you will learn some basics that you know work for you. I started out alone, in fact I’v never fly fished with anyone else other than my son’s, now 11 and 13, why, cause I like it that way. Now I have learned to talk and ask Q’s, from local fly shops and here on this BB. And now I know alot more than I did, I think fly fishing with the gruop in Roscoe is going to be a blast!!! There you go, a loner lernner’s 02…lol

LetortRun, This stream where you are having all these “problems”, is it the Letort?
AGS,
LOL, of course. How did you know? I know, I know, someone on here once told me that learning on the Letort is like learning to hit a baseball pitched by Randy Johnson. Unfortunately, the Letort is literally my backyard and when I walk my dogs, it like they are taunting me. I’ll walk by, and despite what anyone who fishes the Letort says, I’ll look down and watch 20+ wild brown trout swim into the cress.
I think thats what makes it so hard. Have you fished the Letort? Any advice? Call it just desserts and tell me I deserve what I’m getting, but I’m telling you, its irresistable.
Just a guess from your user name. I have fished the Letort but not lately. Fished it back when you could find Charlie Fox and other Regulars fishing it and hanging around the stream. I still fish it occasionally, but my take on it is that it has deteriorated compared to its former glory days.
