John

I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know of this hotspot.

Gotta mend like crazy!

Put a heavy hackle on your dry flies.

John,
Doing some checking on possibly fishing the Lochsa.

What I have found, so far, I wonder if you might comment:
Avg. cutt size 10-14"
Due to deep holes, bank fishing is the norm???
I have seen videos of guys wading, but don’t know where.
Thanks,
Byron

Byron; Here’s what it looks like in September.

[

And a LOT of weight on your nymphs.

Answers to 2 suppositions I posed??

Byron -

I’d rather not, on this thread.

Except to say that the 40 miles, or thereabouts, of the system that I’ve fished fourteen of the past fifteen months ( January was a bit cold on that side of the Bitterroot ) present every conceivable condition / situation that you can imagine on a big freestone river that runs uncontrolled from a low streamflow around 500 CFS to a high stramflow well over 20,000 CFS over the course of the year. And there is another 30 plus miles of river I haven’t even looked at from an angling point of view.

So … no generalities, except that the largest percentage of fish in the system are native and wild West Slope cutthroat trout.

John

I watched that video and could not tell which one of the guys was Jesse!

Did you see a NuCanoe, Warren ??

Sort of like standing out in the middle of the LA freeway system at rush hour. What a thrill! Larry —sagefisher—

John - I looked but did not see any NuCanoes! : )

Larry - After watching the video, I decided that I must really be getting old since I did not see anything that looked like fun to me!!! : )

Warren, that’s bigger water than I am ready to flip my boat on yet. I need more practice on the Hooch. I’m thinking that would challenge the stability of your Nucanoe.

Not sure why this old thread showed up today, but maybe the linked Youtube video will bring some smiles, memories, or laughs to some BB members and visitors.

I will only add that that creek was not nearly so wild when I fished it Christmas Day 2024. The fishing wasn’t great, but it sure was nice to be out on the water.

The fish are always right.

Where are their fly rods?

Way, way downstream.

What a hoot!
And no boats were injured during the making of this film…
