Hot Seatrout Action

Palma Sola Bay is producing the best seatrout action I’ve experienced in several years. Drei Stroman of Fort Myers joined me yesterday on what proved to be a slow outing. We caught and released 40 trout, a load of ladyfish and a nice pompano – all on fly. The tide was really slow. They’ll pick up next week with the new moon. So, I expect some hot action then.

We’re using Clouser Deep Minnows and Popovics Jiggys on either sinktip lines or floating lines with 12-foot fluorocarbon leaders. The trout have been solid, fat and up to 23 inches.

I wish I was finding the trout so plentiful here in Englewood. Man those seats on the NuCanoes look comfortable, will they hold us men of “majestic stature”?

Great report but really? No Specs for the frying pan or freezer???

No. Trout really aren’t that good. And I certainly wouldn’t put them in the freezer if I did like them.

10’ NuCanoe?

I always thought Redfish were better eating than speckled sea trout but that is ultra taboo nowadays…even when taken legally. Back when I lived in Fla (before you even needed a license to fish the salt), we ate many a spec fried like you would any crappie or catfish. Pretty tasty in my book, and better than croaker. If you pack the fillets in some fresh water, they actually keep well in the freezer. Hope I didn’t insult you Florida Fly. Any fish that eats other fish, shrimp and crabs can’t be half bad IMHO!

Didn’t insult me at all. Some people like steak. Others like hamburger.
