Yep, it’s me, Flats Dude, or just “Flats” for short (since I don’t think I can re-register using my old handle. To let you in on what’s going on, I’m now at Travel Country in Altamonte Springs, Florida. We’ve opened a fly shop!!! Been working on this for about a year.
Anyway, not too much going on on the east central coast, except for Mosquito Lagoon has been yielding some decent trout and redffish. American shad are running up the St. Johns River, but I haven’t been out yet. Maybe this coming Monday.
Deanna, how are you doing? I’m post a bit more coming up. Lots of new faces…![]()
ooops, I see the farandaway site is still here at the bottom. I’ll remove it later…Roger, Larry and I put it to bed this year.
Well, well, well, the ol’ saltie’s back! Hi Gary!! Good to have you back & anxious to hear how things are going for you down there. There are still a bunch of us old dogs here. I’m still catchin’ the H outta those saltwater bluegills up here in Ohio, so come on up! ![]()
Will you be writing an article or few?
Mikey
Hey Mikey!!! Things are finally stablizing around here…I think. Gotta love those saltwater bluegill!!! I haven’t written in a while, but I might. I will need to speak with Deanna, probably. Haven’t talked to Micus in years, last I heard he ran off to a desert somewhere!
The last I talked to Micus, he had become a Montana “troutie” headed to the Middle East (I seem to recall it being College/University affiliated). I did get some type communication later, but I haven’t been in touch with him in a long time either.
Does the fly shop have a website?
Mikey
Mike, the shop within the store doesn’t, but the store does…

Micus is still working for the university in Saudi Arabia and got married to a lovely Italian gal, earlier this week.
REALLY???!!! That’s too cool, Dave! If you talk to him, tell him I said howdy!
Hey … I bet “Flats Dud” was available.
hehe!!!
Good to see you’re still around. Been wondering for sure what was up!!
I R Here! Lots of water been under the old bridge since I was last here…so, what’s been a goin’ on in the salty area?
Nice to see you here again and yes, we’d love to see an article or story S Happy for Dave, I haven’t heard from him in a few months, so glad to see he found a lady!
Let me see what I can come up with in a week, or so, Dee.
Well, in between fronts the fishin’ ain’t so bad. This time of year though it’s front after front after front after …
Great time of year for fishing but you have to cross your fingers that a front isn’t blowing through and the wind isn’t howling!! ![]()
I would suppose that if noone has used your old name that the owner of the sight might be able to do something to help you out. Anyway, nice to have a Saltie here. I’m looking forward to getting lots of info, as I am going to be taking on SW fishing in the near future. Welcome back and if you do get the website up and running please post it. Best regards
We’ll have to stop at the shop next trip down your way and by all means go for those shad. My favorite place is about a 1/4 to 1/2 mile down from the County Park at Hatbill off 46 but watch that first drainage ditch if you go as it’s muckkkkkkky! Thigh deep if you miss the trail! If the water’s not too high I just walk down for the first 200 yds then wade on down. If you hit it right they wear your arms off!
DAVE MARRIED! Wow. I thought he swore off that concept after his divorce. Glad to hear he and you all are doing well.
