Just came home from the monthly Alaska Fly Fishers meeting. This month was the annual fly tying competition and judging for People’s Choice…
Seems Martha, my wife, won the streamer division with a classic Dee fly incorporating Conranch hen grizzly. Her goal had been the People’s Choice and her other entry had been her main effort. She was not tying in competition with a bunch of losers, either. Actually I guess I misspoke as we all are now by definition. M won the People’s Choice last year and was really looking to string another together.
People’s Choice was won by a 5 year old boy that camped out at the table telling everyone which fly he tied! Riley had spent a day helping him tie his fly and it was a very good effort.
Long as we are talking about Riley, he won his age class, 15-18… But his Silver Hilton also won Judge’s Choice! Of course the wing was grizzly from the same Conranch hen. So Riley picked up 100 dollars in gift certificates to local fly shops.

Carston, the five-year-old has had a hero worship thing going for Riley for a long time and when we fish the Kenai together Carston insists on getting his help from Riley…
Do not think I need to mention how excited Riley is about the skins you are sending!
thanks!

True Winners! I really like the obvious skill in the ties. Also love the Cree hen colors in the ties.
Choice of hackle enhances the overall look. Too bad not very many have them. It pleased me to
see my efforts as a breeder come to life. Course both of the Peck tiers are outstanding.
Thanks for sharing the photos with us Hap!
Also loved the obvious skill of the young tier. Good job in guiding him Riley. Am sure it also makes you proud.
