Here and There in MT and WY

Part 1

Fished the well-known places with lots of my friends

had to put in a reservation at West Yellowstone to get this spot

people party hardy up here so evenings on the river were pretty quiet

caddis hatch was much better than on the Madison

couple of guys spey-casting for biggies here

pretty quiet in the morning before the fleet put in; Miss Sally with the red behind payed a visit

Part 2

fished well-known places with nobody but the critters
this one required a bit of a slog but the big bugs were still doing it in the willows

got some nice 'bows (definitely didn’t look like cutt-bows) here; didn’t think they came up this far

surprised we had this to ourselves but the bear hauling *** back and forth across the meadow may have had something to do with it

fished a lot of little blue lines that nobody else bothered with:

this one had browns and biting flies

this one had browns, cutt-bows and biting flies

that duct tape is SPF 50, btw

this one had 'bows, brookies, beavers and biting flies

[FONT=verdana]more little blue lines

this one had west slopes

this place was interesting; couldn’t quite figure out what they wanted on top

Random stuff

folks were more interested in this than the Firehole Falls

bit of a debate over which is the better eatery

stuck in a (Toccata and) fugue state

sage grouse country

Mary Kay in Montana is one tough lady

scored some home made pumpkin pie and macaroni salad in Three Forks

Sweetgrass Hills

one third of the Triad

well, where else would you put them?

looks like they’ve cleaned up Browning a bit

well, maybe not

Wind? Let’s talk about the wind (the Leaning Tower of Marias Pass)

heading back to the mean streets of Whitefish

why they call it Big Sky country

Scott

Bunch of neat pixels and staccato comments. Nicely done, Scott.

John

Enjoyed it as well - hope you missed the recent wind and thunder storms, last evening was the most specular lighting we’ve ever seen in Montana!

I was back in Whitefish last Friday when we got a hail storm at 11 PM. Seemed like an odd time for hail, luckily no damage there. Saw a good bit of lightning while up on the Mo; started the Mission Road Fire north of Craig which, fortunately they contained pretty quickly:

Hope you have an uneventful fire season, and continued good fishing.

Scott

Beautiful country! I have fallen in love with fishing those “little blue lines” most folks overlook. Most of the time, they aren’t full of monsters, but you NEVER see anyone else! Thanks for the pics… I am jealous, stuck here in hot, dry Kansas!

Hey Scott, Just saw your post…big dummy…never thought to look here under fishing reports…hmmm.

Fishing the Bighorn Sat,Sun and Monday and then off to the Tongue for a few days…unless we get
redirected by someone…LOL
Those are some great pics. What kind of camera were you using and were you using a polarizing filter?

Joe

Joe,

Embarrassed to say, but the camera is a cheap ($39) Vivitar P & S I got from W-Mart last year. It has no macro function (actually it does have a macro setting, but all it seems to do is blur pictures) and a crummy zoom but takes surprisingly decent photos if the light’s good and I just P & S it. We also have a 6 yr old Canon P & S that does have a good macro (what I use to take pics of flies) but the wife doesn’t trust me with it when I’m near water; she is wise. Hope you have a great time on the Horn & Tongue and the fish are looking up.

Regards,
Scott

That is just too funny…$35.00 camera…you got some great shots there.
I am using one of the Olympus Tough 6000 cameras that I got for Father’s day last year.
