Recently got back into fly fishing hot and heavy when my son finally showed interest. I was re-wrapping a 9’ 8wt 4 pc rod with the original Gudebrod 5274 Chestnut thread. 1st stripping guide and hook keeper to go and I run out of thread. No big deal, order some more and a few other items I need. Not too much money and in no hurry so no big deal. Looking online I see they have gone out of business. I closed my eyes and envisioned the piles of thread on the table from re-wrapping several guides more than a few times trying to get back in the groove. I found a place in Alabama that still has some if I want to pay $12 shipping.
Oh well, I’ll be more frugal with the 257 Rust thread I’m using now.
My wife doesn’t see the difference between the colors and doesn’t understand why I “go through all that trouble when you can buy it all put together anyway”
OK … so let me get this straight …
You’re rewrapping a rod. You run out of thread. You check for more. No longer available except with exorbitant shipping charges. Got it. BUT … are you RE-WRAPPING it in 257 Rust or are you still looking for the Gudebrod 5274? I’d be happy to look through my stash of threads IF you’re still looking for the original thread. Hesitant to go down to the building area, as I can only get in trouble there …
Next time … ask first, before you rip everything apart. I have two spools (original, A, 5274) in my cache. Gunna use it on a couple new fibreglass blanks.
