If you like the thread they make for rod building you better stock up NOW!

When they fly tying thread business went bye-bye, I bought a lifetime supply as soon as the news broke. Now it’s all but impossible to find.

Hopefully another fly fishing company will buy it and keep it going. We’re losing way too many companies

These folks are more than a fly tying/rod building thread company and the article says that they are going through a financial re-structuring, not closing down. I hope that their efforts to gain new sources of capitol are successful. Best Regards…

I hope they find a way to become financial sound and resume operations. It’s almost alway sad when a company goes out of business and is replaced by products from other parts of the world.

Really surprised as I was told a year ago that they were done, closing.

Gudebrod has had some problems for the past couple years now, many times there have been rumors of them going out of business. Although it’s true that they laid everyone off I don’t think they are going to be “gone”. One of my main suppliers for rod building parts spoke with the head of Gudebrod just about a month ago and he said they were restructuring and were having some problems but there were no plans for them to shut the doors for good anytime soon. so I think you will see them back up at least in some capacity again.

Steve

Hopefully those folks that were working for them can find new jobs or that Gudebrod gets their finances in order and can hire them back. I hate to see good people out of work thru no fault of their own.

“thru no fault of their own” except really arrogant management. Another example, I called them a few times about being Sponsors…was told to see them at the next dealer show, I think it was in Denver that year. Made an appointment and attempted to be of service. I was told in very rude terms that they didn’t know why I was there to see them, they certainly didn’t need to do any advertising, much less on the Internet. Like they couldn’t have told me that on the phone and not have wasted my time too? Really sad all the way around.

I used their hotmelt glue for building custom cedar arrows long before I ever thought of them as a fly fishing company. They’ve been around as long as I can remember.

What a shame, another excellent American company down the tubes. I’ve used their products for years. 8T :frowning:

I was at a major distributor of Gudebrod yesterday, just outside of Pottstown and was told the company is officially done BUT…

…the fishing division may live on through the efforts of one of the brothers. Whether or not this will mean the resurrection of the fly tying thread or not remains to be seen but for the present, rod building thread is still available, at least through some sources.

Unfortunately for the folks that worked in the other divisions of Gudebrod, the end has come.
