griffin odyssey spider vise...help converting to left handed

the instruction say you can do it easily, but they don’t tell u how… as far as i cant tell you need to spin the slide block and shaft 180 degrees… except it wont budge… i tried wrapping rubber and grabbing the threaded tube with vise grips… tore the rubber…
it works fine, and i just got it, don’t want to break it… it sits 1/4 inch off center, so you don’t get that hook shank perfect spin, kind of defeats the purpose of having a rotating vise i think…
can anyone help? am i retarded, or is it defective?

here are some pictures…

the first three are from the manual, the last 2 are on my desk set up “lefty,” i know if i flip the jaws it would line up, but that makes it a pain in the *** to adjust them…

I have this same vice. Had it now for several years and it works great. I never tried to make it left-handed so after reading your post I went and tried it. You are not crazy. I damaged the threaded shaft trying to turn the block off of the shaft. It doesn’t seem to want to move. What I did notice is that the threads in the middle of the shaft are not necessary so damaging them does not hurt the function of the vice. Like you said though, I don’t want to try to put too much pressure on it and twist the shaft in half or something stupid. Seems this might be a fault with the design or we are both of our rockers:confused:

I’d contact Griffin. Folks in Kalispell are usually a friendly lot.

Scott

Another vote for calling Griffin.

Good folks. If they can’t talk you through it, they’ll likely let you send it to them and have THEM do it.

Buddy

amazing what a phone call will acomplish! lol
after about a week of not getting through to griffin i finally did about 5 minutes ago, they have you send it back and they swap out the jaws… for free, not something many companys offer. im used to it, being a lefty and all lol, anyway, thanks for pushing me to call guys.
