Greys rods

Does anyone have experience with these? I recently was a controller in a fishing comp and Greys seemed well represented among the competitors.

They seem like they are a decent rod for a good value but I thought I would run it through the gauntlet here…

They are popular for Euronymphing. I have no personal experience with them. You can go here and ask about the Grey Rods:

I’ve got X-Flights in 5 and 7 weight, and a Stream Flex in a 3 weight. They’re absolutely great rods.

How would you place the Streamflex as far as the action is concerned…?

It’s a lot slower than the X Flight; I’d say medium.

I use mine mostly for short, upstream wet fly fishing where I never take more than about a rod’s length of line past the tip, and it works wonderfully for that task. (I imagine it would be great for Euro-nymphing, as well.) It’s very light (well, as a three weight it should be) for a nine foot rod, easy to cast with either hand, and I can do short, frequent casts for hours on end without tearing my shoulder up.

I cast a Streamflex at a show last year. I was impressed. I am looking for a new 5 wt and am seriously considering that rod. Nice rods!

Good info, thanks everyone!

Grey’s is owned by Hardy. Like Redington is owned by Sage. Okay?

Friends have Greys and like them. A friend is a rep and their service is excellent (orders are right and ofter sales is just as good). A local shop here started carrying them and was pleased with the company (rep, orders, service, info etc).

I tried a few, but I don’t know which models. Quality seemed quite nice for the price and the actions are “generally” a tad slower than my “american” rods. I believe many use terms like “parabolic” or “European” to describe the actions on the models I tried.

As Deanna mentions, … they are a branch or something of Hardy.

From Hardy’s home page:

In 1999 Hardy acquired the rod manufacturer Greys which had been founded in 1968 by Mr Grey when he left Hardy’s employment. Hardy has developed the Greys brand such that it now includes the best value for money ranges of salmon and trout tackle available and top quality carp tackle.
In 2004 the Company’s name was changed from House of Hardy Ltd to Hardy & Greys Ltd better to reflect the diverse range of the Company’s products.

I agree with Bob I have a 10 "Streamflex 3 wt. Their marketed for Euro nymphing fine tippet. I like for wets and soft hackles Im completely satisfied.
The new rod on the market that’s making a lot of noise is the Echo Shadow—http://www.rajeffsports.com/echo_pe.php---I have heard some very good things about the technology and their service .

                                                                                                                JAD

I recently bought a Platinum XD 9’ 9wt to use for an upcoming trip to Florida this winter and for fishing for Northern Pike. I bought it based on a recommendation from a guy I know who guides for Pike in the warm months and in the salt during the winter. All I can say is that I like the way it casts. I had thought I would get a TFO Ticr X but this rod is much lighter which was a big concern. I think I made the right choice.

I was thinking about checking out their 10’ or 10’6" 3wt. I have one of their DECHO speys and it’s a very nice rod. I’ve never used the streamflex but i’ve heard their nice rods.
