grasshopper from FF&T Journal

I tried to tie the hopper that is on the fall issue of Fly Fishing & Tying Journal 's cover.

Fantastic! Very lifelike!

… and very nicely done !!

John

P.S. I do wonder how flexible the various body parts are, and what kind of action, if any, this hopper would have on the water ??

That’s not real??? NICE, NICE, NICE! Great job!
Mike

Thanks guys.
JohnScott the fly is very flexible . The legs and antennae are monofilament , the body is mostly deer hair and thread. Here 's another view of the fly.
Fred

Now that is amazing,well done

Awesome tying!!!

And how long did this take?

Very well done!

Thanks everyone. Big Bad Wulff this fly took almost an hour. The hopper goes together pretty quick , except for the legs which have to be heat kinked with a bodkin. The hind legs take longest of all . They are tied each with one straight piece of mono and one piece that is looped and wrapped with thread to give it the propper look. The color of the fly comes from marking the thread with Copic markers .

Not bad, Fred!

Here’s another Grasshopper pattern, and one that I’m thinking of tying. You know what they say: Big flies for Big fish.

We have those big horse lubers down here as well. Of course ours only get up to 3 1/2 inches.
John let us see what you come up with.
