goose biots

hey guys,
i was out in my pontoon boat today at the local lake going for some bass
and when i was near the shoreline i saw some feathers floating in the water up against the reeds… so i went over to check them out and i found 7 great long goose biot feathers!!! the geese had been flying around and i had seen one earlier this morning and obviouslty some of there feathers had fallen out!!!
woo hoo

they are just natural colors but hey they tie some nice dry flies

so… next time you are at yuor local lake you may want to look for some goose biots!
anybody else found em’ at your local lake??

Yeah I sure, the Canadian snow geese (that’s what we call them here) leave a bunch. Seems at times of the year they loose a mess of feathers. Great feathers…

be careful and aware of what you pick up off the ground from migratory and other birds

I have a couple of hunters that give me the the feathers. Using Easter Egg dye you can get six more colors of biots.
I have also asked for Turkey wing feathers this next fall to see if I can dye those.

hmmm thanx for the info!!!
not sure i will pick up anymore feathers

Geese are not one of the protected species like eagles and some of the other birds.

Hi Chris,

Funny you should mention it. Gretchen and I picked up several very nice goose feathers while walking (and fishing) the dog along the river this weekend. I stuck them in my cap until we got back to the cabin where they continued their trip to our fly tying kits. Who knows what they will “bring to hand” from there <G?>. Take care & …
