Good thigs about the change.

I suspect Ron & LF could use some positive feedback about the “changing change”.

How about listing new things you like …and would like to see stay…it would provide alerting each other to perhaps some neat things that maybe some of us aren’t aware of…

I’ll start with three…

Listing what page you are on and of how many pages…e.g. …4 of 4

The ability to “View First Unread”

Pretty sure now we don’t lose an unfinished reply if you switch pages…

I generally like it…once any bugs are ironed out, I believe it’ll be eventually viewed as a positive change.

when I hit the back arrow after replying to a post it takes me back to where I want to go. I don’t have to hit back four times.

Hey, it’s just a nice change. Sometimes a change is as good as a rest. I like it. Are there some things different or ‘currently’ more difficult than before? Sure, but they’re not life-changing, just different. Thanks.

Kelly.

I like the “What’s new?” tab at the top.

The color contrast seems to be sharper now, or at least I’m having an easier time reading things
No more issues for me

After reading Ron’s thread about the request to upgrade I really understand why things are so different. Actually they are not different - It’s really just SOP “Standard Operating Procedure”. The Bulletin Board Software was behind in updates. It is usually a good idea to apply updates, so that is what he did. I do see some new things that add value to the board from those updates. That is a good thing.

The problem is with all updates things get changed. Being involved in Technical Support for a software firm I know how things work. Computers hate change even more then we do and they always let us know about it immediately!

The look definitely is a bit different but the more I use it the more I like it. FAOL just keeps getting better all the time

I like it! Plus it’s taken peoples minds off “other things” and given them something new to biatch about!! <Oh come on!! Where’s your humor??!!??>

I love the “New Posts”

They fixed my only issue So I am ok with it. I am pretty much used to it already. Well, actually, I would still change the default font size and I would put in an off white text box background.

I can live with it though…

Overall things seem much the same to me, though they look different. The difference in the look initially confused me a bit, but that’s not hard to do! I find the posts easier to read, I like the contrast of the white background and black text. I’m not a fan of the “hot topic” colour scheme, where the thread button turns red as I find this more attention grabbing than the change in the icon that depicts “new posts”. Of course, the option to just read “new posts” is there too, so I may end up liking that. Just not used to using it. Other than that, it seems to me it mostly just looks different, but works the same old way. Might take a bit of time to get used to the new look. I think it will eventually turn out to be six of one half dozen of the other. If the updates fixed some issues, then it will have been worth it.

Overall I like it.

I like FAOL. The new look is still FAOL.
Therefore, I…
Mikey

I like it. It looks more modern.
2 thumbs up for the guy behind the scenes.

The look of the board is a bit different but I see the same people here. Works for me. It is the people that I come here for. Not the background color.

i think that after all is said is done, everything that was on the old board is really still here on this new board. some item may be “new” and some items may be “renamed”. the is a nice new feature that is the “popup” box to indicate a new “PM” has been sent to you. turn it on if you havent done so already. but in the end its still the FAOL bulletin board.

the management had to make changes either to keep the current sponsors or to attract new sponsors so this board that you all cant live without will survive. over the weekend there were alot of negative posts that were all about ME, ME, ME. there is no ME in FAOL.

i would like to see the avatar feature be turned on so folks could post a photo under their user name.

i like the new look and i like change. i hope the other changes coming in the future lift this website so sponsors want to participate here instead of leaving.

Actually Norm, the popup feature was there before, just had to check a box to turn it on. I’ve used the pop-up notification since I joined FAOL. That like all the other settings, carried over. If it was on before it’s still on, if it wasnt it’s still not.

I always wondered why one could upload an Avatar, but never saw it used anywhere other then when you look at your own profile. I would like to see it show in the threads since it’s an upload option in the first place.

Very valid point. The site has to be user friendly to attract members, but has to be member-friendly to attract sponsors. If members are happy with FAOL, they should point their favorite vendors to the Sponsor page if they are not already on it.

2 points for Betty!

Things I like:

  • More elegant, simplified color scheme. The old one, while functional, looked like it stumbled through a freshly painted 70s-era living room.

  • Kept most of the old features and added more new ones…without cluttering the interface. With tweaking, i’m sure ‘First Unread Post’ button beside the thread title will actually take you to the post rather than the page (basically, it now takes 2 clicks to do something normally done with one, no huge deal). Other than that one thing, I dont think we’ve ‘lost’ anything. A rarity in upgrades this long in coming.

  • Improved flexibility in the reply interface.

  • Current with forum technology, so newcomers won’t be put off by archaic systems

Almost forgot:

I LOVE that the “Thread Author” is no longer immediately under the “Go to first unread post” button. Cant tell you how many times I’ve accidentally clicked the person’s name and ended up at their profile instead of their thread.
