Gold Redfish spinner flies

Here’s my 1st tries at gold redfish flies using spinner blades for flash. Thoughts anyone?
Have not had an opportunity to try them out yet. I would say an 8 or 9wt would be in order.
Thanks Skip for the blades.

They look good Don and I have a small package ready to send you tomorrow. I am sure you know what’s inside, LOL!

Don,

They will work.

Kyle

Don, they look great. I would try to use smaller split rings though.

Yes he just had what I sent him for my Roadrunner heads, but I know he wants smaller ones and he can get them or I will get them for him if he wants. That size is even kind of big for my Roadrunner heads, but that is what they use on them. They do come in much smaller one for sure. So just think he’s using what he has at this time. Don’t mean to speak for Don, but I believe I know the answer for that.

Thanks, Kyle. Is this Mr. K.M. from Baton Rouge?

Skip, and Kelkay,

Yes, I agree the rings are too big. I looked through my tackle-box and couldn’t find anything smaller.
That’s why I mounted one blade and a hook on a mono stinger with a clear bead to keep it tight.
Don’t know how that will move until I can fish it, or send them all to Tom, who will tease me with fish pictures.

DonO1,

Small split rings - craft section - Walmart. Hope this helps!

Best regards, Dave S.

Yes… hope all is well. I’m working to get ready for this week’s Gulf Coast Council EXPO in San Antonio. When its over, I’ll send ya’ those flies…

Kyle

Walmart is okay if you want some small package, but I tie and sell crappie jigs and some have blades so I buy them from the Mfg. and it’s not very costly unless you want real Gold Plated blades or rings. Heck I don’t even get the Lacquered and just buy polished Brass or Nichol Plated.

Hi Kyle, too bad you couldn’t hire me for that bash. We could have had a blast. Tom & I fished a lot, but the weather didn’t co-operate much and the wind kept the spotting of reds fairly difficult. We did have some good days in the pass, but the giant 3’ reds swimming through were keeping deep and fast, very hard to get a cast out in front of them. You’ll love Tom’s ‘array’ of fishing boats now- one for every kind of fishing. We need to make plans to go fishing with him again.

Skip, I sent the mfg. an email requesting info on getting sample packs of spinner blades, rings, and swaivels. Let’s see what he comes up with.

I get most of my split rings and stuff from Jann’s Netcraft. They have a wonderful selection there to choose from.

They will get them right out to you. I have had them send samples several time and they come pretty fast. They have good service.

Don,

I did call Tom… It was great to re-connect with him! (and with you!)

Sorry y’all didn’t hook up with more reds… as you well know, the weather(i.e. winds) down here can really be hassel when targeting reds until mid-May… but after that Watch Out! 'cuz the marshes down here are full of reds… which means that north Florida will have to get some of our “spillover”. I wonder if all this fresh water coming down the river will move more reds over to Tom?

I’m dying to get over to fish with Tom… We’ll have to get you back down from Wyoming and go out together.

Kyle
