Going small

I fished today with the same size 10 beadhead squirrel hair nymph I have been using, but today I tied a size 16 soft hackle off the bend. That fly was about the same size as the tail on the beadhead nymph. I was hoping to get a few doubles and did get one. What surprised me is that the soft hackle out-caught the nymph about three to one. It also got most of the biggest fish as well as the smallest which couldn’t have gotten its mouth around the nymph.
