Went to Bolton Abbey yesterday but didnt fish much as the felt sole on my orvis wading boots started to come away. Whats the best glue to use to stick it back with? Thanks Jim
The standard has long been barge cement. Should be available at your local hardware store.

may sound odd but once you have the felt/glue in place drive your car/truck up on top of the boot …this will insure the bond really…
Shoe Goo with pressure works well. I suggest roughening the sole to increase surface area for binding.
Hi, Jim -
Welcome to the best darned fly tying, flyfishing site I know of! Here’s hopin’ we hear more from you!
As for the sole of your Orvis boot, I’d first say that you may wanna send ‘em back to Orvis, unless they’re really old, and if you’ve got a pair for backup (sounds like maybe you don’t though).
As for a repair on your own, go with what Bones, CO, and Chuck have already said. I’d add that it works best if you do at least two separate coats of the Barge Cement on each surface. I wait about 15-20 minutes after applying the second (or third) coat, and then apply sustained heavy pressure for several hours. At first, I laughed at Bones’ suggestion, but it’s really a good one! Other options might be clamps, and/or firmly-wrapped duct tape.
Good luck!
contact cement has always worked for me. USE IT OUTDOORS ONLY!
Gorilla Glue!
Glued soles on the bottom of some dirt bike boots and they have been there for quite a while through all sorts of abuse, including a LOT of water.
Nothing better IMHO.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I contacted Orvis who said send them back and they would sort it. You cant knock great service like that. Jim
It’s an Orvis product and you even had a doubt??. Their customer service is SO GOOD that it’s almost embarrasing to take advantage of it .There’s a cult that knocks Orvis “just because” with NO specific reason except for they can’t afford the stuff so to knock it is the best recourse.
This ,coming from someone who knows his rods ONLY by their color rather than their brand, but, I DO have an Orvis rod( green one) which was gifted to me (oh, and Orvis waders , 6 seasons of light use).
