Last Sept. thru Oct. I did quite well on spinning gear using glow in the dark rubber shads. Does anyone know of any company making glow in the dark materials that I could use for tying streamers or Clousers?
I haven’t had any luck finding any materials in the fly or craft shops I go to.

I use phosphorescent fabric paint for streamer eyes and to coat my leader knots for in-line indicators
I’m sure that there are many other applications
I have used glow beads for heads on glow spiders. These are fairly small, so I don’t know how well they would work on saltwater flies.

I add glow in the dark flashabou to many of my clousers and other streamers.
Also use it as a sort of wing on my Angela nymph, which is great on bluegills…I’m convinced the glow keeps them biting a little later into the evening, even after they’ve generally stopped feeding for the day.
thats interesting stuff dunfly…never really tried except a little on the glow in the dark concept…I used glow sticks…I personally had no success but heart wasnt into it…I didnt know such paint was around…now I am more than curious…would love a glow in the dark crab…thing about that is I wonder if it is all for nothing because the fish can see so much better than humans especially underwater…I tend to think that other senses take over when/if needed such as lateral line and pressure changes to sense motion…can somebody change my mind about this?
Last weekend I saw a shrimp pattern tied with UV Crystal Flash. When illuminated with a blue light it glowed for some time afterward. I was intrigued to say the least. Not sure how practical this is when fishing though.
Not sure about salt water fishing, but here in NZ glow in the dark flies are very popular in freshwater after dark. The stuff you want is I think called Aurora Skirt. It is a sheet of glow in the dark material pre cut in thin strips, you can use the strips for ribbing, or for body material and we charge it up with a strong torch or camera flash every 15 minutes or so and the Rainbows love it.

Stopped by a fly shop last week & the new “hot” product was glow in the dark flash to add to deceivers, clousers, EP’s etc. for the saltwaters . Only shopped for some weighted eyes & estaz & don’t remember the manufacturer; but might tie some in the future for nighttime dock fly fishing.

I had that glow in the dark UTC tinsel downstairs and wanted to try a couple of simple patterns. I have been chasing the carp with these but they will work fine for trout as well. The real thing that makes this size 16 a carp fly is that it is tied on a Mustad R90 in size 16 which by the way has been discontinued and I consider them gold. It is a 4X strong salmon hook. While you can still get size 12 and larger, I bought up everything that I could find early this year in size 16 and 14 because they have been dropped. I’m unaware of any 4X strong alternative in this size range.
Anyhow, simple tie, small pattern to fool the early spring carp with a small hook that I can put some pressure on.

There are plenty of Glow in the Dark materials available. I have eyes that , flashabous and EP fibers.
I like that fly for carp. Thats the problem i have run into with carp, sometimes they want a real small fly but the small hooks are not normally strong enough for a twenty pound carp or the gap is to small.
If you tie foam flies you can buy golw in thedark foam in yellow… Walmart sells glow in the dark thread at times in the sewing section at times is several colours, blue, yellow, pink, green & white…

Sorta off topic…icw furled leaders. I tried the Wal Mart Glow in the Dark thread to make a furled leader. IT Does not work. It furls fine. But Bugman and I made two. We both had the same experience. It doesn’t roll out at all. Just collapses at the end of the cast. Perhaps playing with formulas would help…I dunno. But using the standard 10-8=6 taper on a 6.5’ furled leader…it is a total flop. Pun intended.
