GLoomis Trilogy rods

Has anyone had any experience with these rods? I know they are discontinued and that’s about it. I’m looking at a 9’ 5wt 3 piece. It’s a good looking rod but haven’t had a chance to cast it yet. Just looking for some opinions as I’ve never owned a Loomis rod.

It is a dog, that’s why it was discontinued.
Designed by Steve’s Rayjeff’s brother who fancied himself as a rod designer. He isn’t.
I did cast it and was very disappointed. (And so you know, I was the first woman member of the G. Loomis Pro Staff).

Cool. Thanks for the input. It’s a pretty rod but seems like that’s all it’s got going for it. Probably the reason it’s still on the shelf. Thanks again.

Before Sage came out with TCR rods,
most of the Best-OF-The-West distance tournaments were won by casters using Trilogy rods; so in my opinion they can’t be
“dogs”

I have the rod you asked about. It’s certainly heavier and stiffer than most rods; and that’s why most people didn’t want them.

Some have descibed them as being close to the old Loomis IMX rods.

For certain fishing situations–when it’s windy, or when I’m fishing bigger flies–I love the rod.

As a follow up, I thought I’d should also mention that Trilogy rods probably work better for casters with shorter, faster casting strokes, like the Rajeffs.

Keep in mind, to this day some people swear by IMX rods; yet they also weren’t for most people.

I would suggest casting it before buying.

Randy

Good point and one which made here often.
Different strokes for different folks.

Thanks for all the great input! I’m headed out to cast it in a few days along with a few other rods as well. It’s a beautiful rod and at the price I hope I like it. Thanks again!

I had 2 Trilogy 2 wts and both of them had troubles with the reel slip ring binding up in humid weather! There seemed to be too little clearance for the ring to slide properly.

One was replaced and when that also buggered up I sold it off…to someone in a cold climate!

And IMX’s rock! Bigtime.

In my very humble opinion.

Jeremy.
