I say in a magazine several years ago about a company that made Gloe In The Dark Thread but, I have no idea where I saw this. Can anyone help me?
Thanks,

It’s is called GloYarn and is white. It works great for parachute posts and any other application to flys that have a lot of floss or thread exposed on the body. Put a light on it and it glows in the dark. Great for an indicator fly in low light conditions.
I found these with quick search. I’ve been thinking about wrapping the tip of a catfish rod with it for night fishing.

I tried this a few years ago, and it did NOT work.
I got a couple of seconds of ‘glow-in-the-dark’, then all was black as night again.
If you find some, and it works, PLEASE let me know what it is and where you found it!!!

Uni Thread makes one in a 3/0 called Uni Glo,
not sure what size spools they have, my fly guy only gets it in 50 yard spools color is Phosphorescent white…
They also make a 1/0 Neon Florescent in red, yellow, orange, green chartreuse and burnt orange.

Uni manufactures a yarn, floss, and 3/0 thread, all phosphorescent. I have used all three products. The yarn is most useful, as mentioned above. The floss and thread seem to be rather slick in nature.
They phosphoresce for well over an hour when subjected to bright sunlight or UV. I’ve tied some very interesting humpies using the floss for late evening fishing.
Fluorescent products do not “glow in the dark.”
Wapsi also markets a “Foxfire yarn” The Uni product seems to phosphoresce a bit longer than the Wapsi product.

I found the Uni and that looks like 3/0 is all there is. I want to make a glow int the dark furled leader and not sure on the 3/0, I usually use 6/0. Maybe Kathy will chime in and tell me what she thinks.
I do have one of those UV flashlights and we have fished at night befor with the GD line by Rio, but would be nice to see the leader. The yarn is a definit possibility for the fly it’s self.

Fly Goddess,
The yarn (when waterproofed) would make a great glo in the dark Strike Indicator, just keeping with the theme!
Plus you got to see the take. LOL!!!

Al Crise works at the Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant in Glen Rose TX. I get all my glow-in-the-dark products from him.

rrhyne56,
If you just fished at the ponds surrounding the nuclear power plants you wouldn’t have to worry about any glow in the dark fishing products, you could just fish for the Glow In The Dark Fish, I hear their really easy to see!

Now that’s funny.
Thanks on the strike indicator idea akalooker. That will work.

What’s the name of that stuff in a tube that makes a glow when rubbed on?
I believe that the tube/stick product is called “Aqua-glo” or some facsimile thereof. Have been tempted to try it, but have only seen it mail order.

Hi,
Sorry so late in replying - been making leaders for the Great Waters Expo ![]()
I’ve been playing with glowing leaders for a few years, but I’m just not satisfied with the many materials readily available: hard to handle like a slippery floss or fuzzy like yarn, potential for water spray (maybe not much of a nighttime consideration), weight, etc. There was a thread I liked I found at Rusty’s on the Au Sable, but it was in too short in length (had to knot it) and now its not available. I’m not even sure it would work well, and working well is what its about, so I’ve got nothing yet.
Grin - long answer for such a dud of an ending, huh?

Can anybody relate actual ‘on the water’ success with leaders, indicators, or especially with flies, made with flourescent or phosphorescent materials. Is there a big practical advantage? Specifics if you can?

Well we go camping a lot and where aloud will fish after dark. Got the head lamps and all, but sometimes they spool the fish. We tried it last year hearing the fish hitting the water, so we threw out drys from the shore line. Didi okay but it would be nice to know how far out you are and it is your line they are hitting LOL

DMC ( the maker of cross stitch cotton yarn)has Glow in the dark polyester: #E940. It has also fluorescent green (E990) and yellow (E980)The web site is: [url=http://www.dmc-usa.com:e51d5]http://www.dmc-usa.com[/url:e51d5]
You cannot make furled leader with this type of product, but you could make an indicator.
After exposure to the sun or a UV lamp, it glows very well.
Wal-Mart/Jo-anne Fabric are selling Glow in the Dark thread, made by Coats and Clark. They have White, and some pastel colors, but they all seem to glow green.
they are with the embroidery thread. Look cool on a hook, and as a segmentation ribbing against dark colors.

I have 2 spools of glo-in-the dark thread…
Its called “nitelite” its shows there is 50meters (I think) on the spools… I may be wrong…
Pm me your address and I’ll send them to you…
You can have them…
I tried to tye flies with it… but it just a little to thin for me…

if it does work… I be happy to have a leader from it…

I tried glo yarn from craft shops thinking it would attract trout at night. Didn’t seem to have an effect. I suspect trout can see just fine in the dark and they don’t need glo yarn to find food. But here’s a good one for you. As you know, we do a lot of brown trouting in pitch black. RIO used to make a line that glows in the dark. You can recharge it with a flashlight and it will last a couple of hours. You can see the line pretty well when your eyes get used to the dark but it is not so bright that it scares fish. Gives you a real good indication of where and how far your line is going. I haven’t seen it on the RIO website for a while but I have one that I use all the time. I think it would be great for snook at night too. Hope this helps.
