Has anyone had any experience with the G Loomis Venture reels? or have an opinion?
Plastic bushings
I generally like Loomis and Shimano products. I have a bunch of them, which makes this harder to say: Avoid.
I was fishing with a guy that had them, he used one, I used the other. They both malfunctioned and were returned. This was a while back, and I have never purchased a Loomis reel because of it and have not used on since.
I’ve heard some good and some bad. Depends what you’re using it for. OK when appropriately sized for NE stripers, blues, weakies, etc. Not OK for little tunny, tarpon, etc…
As an aside…I prefer to get reels that are manufactured by reel companies…not rod companies. That goes for Sage & Redington as well. For similar money you can get a Tioga.
I really like that logic.

With all due respect! My favorite reel is made by a rod dealer. My Orvis Battenkill 5/6 Disk is the best reel I own. I wish I could afford more or them.

Orvis doesn’t know what kind of company they want to be
I’m sure Orvis wants to be the kind of company that is profitable. In today’s marketplace, they have to do what ever it takes to continue to be in business. It’s getting tougher and tougher for all companies to compete for market-share. And I think Orvis is doing what it can. I for one, hope they survive. I think they will. To me, they have a kind of Adirondack heritage about them that I don’t want to see disappear. There seems to me to be something about them that emotes characteristics of the birth-place of American flyfishing. And that’s a nice feeling.
Now, if they can just have some Cabela’s type pricing!

Although a lot of people like to bash Orvis, I don’t think that I’ve ever read about someone trashing the Battinkill reels. I’ve always thought that they were the best value reel that i owned, I have 3.
I have the 7 and the 5 sizes, each with a few spare spools. I think they are very good. Never had a problem with them. I would buy them again.
Migs
I have two adventure 3’s and a 5. Never had a problem. quiet reel, silent intake. I don’t depend on the drag as I like to use the rim to control the run.

I love my Battenkill 5/6 reel as well. But I bought my dog’s bed from Cabelas! Ha! But in all honesty, I prefer sweaters from LLBean.
Soup, the battenkill has to be the best reel for the money ever! i have a 3/4 that i’ve had for years and i love it.
Shimano is highly regarded as making some of the world’s finest reels. They have set the standards in many areas.
I own 8 of the Loomis Venture/Adventure reels. The one-way roller clutch (this is NOT a plastic bushing) is now standard on probably half off all fly reels made today.
I have used mine for bream to sailfish and have never had the first problem. I’d buy another in a second, but I suspect it will be a while before I wear any of these out.

Are “Venture” and “Adventure” being used interchangably in this thread?
