Funny Fishing Report, Yakima RIver, WA

Ok…so, we’ve been battling the Yakima since March…nothing…nothing…nothing and THEN!!!

TA DA!!! ROTFLOL! Look at his face…I almost died laughing…poor guy…he’s had to come down to earth with the rest of us mere mortals!LOL!

I have spent the last five years with this guy letting me fish ahead of him and STILL getting skunked while he reeled em all in…this season has been kinda funny…watching him experience frustration for the first time…

Whadda ya think??? Salmon Smolt? Cutthroat?? We couldn’t be sure…

Oh, well…we have had fun anyway!!!

Love you, honey!!! LOL!

Well here I am having a nice time and this little salmon smolt I think takes a hold of the San Juan worm what hoot it was fun I enjoyed the afternoon and my wife fished a little and took lots of good pictures.

I am glad youall had fun today I am allso glad to see other locals on this site I just joined and look forward to seeing more picks I moved back hear to fish more and wouldint you know it minor setback… Dan S…

Jeanene,
I noticed that in the 1st photo, the smolt is so small, that the dogs don’t even see it! I’m glad you took a close-up. Thanks for the report.
Doug

Man, you’re LUCKY to have landed that brute without anyone apparently having a gaff with them! I’d check your rod for “stress cracks” and your fly line for “tension breaks”, before heading out again. (That is after your arm muscles heal up, from the stress of battle)
PLEASE, take this advice, from “One who knows fierce fish battles” first hand!

Seems like I read somewhere that you caught that fish in 1975 or '76. Was that the last MONSTER you caught, or the last time you had a camera with you to capture the moment ??

I would have guessed juvenile rainbow, but then I’ve never seen a salmon smolt ??

Flyfish21;
It’s true, I AM often regarded as “King Of The Monsters”, when it comes to fishing with the long rod. So, it’s possible that you’ve confused the above 2007 landmark picture, with so many others I’ve recorded over time.
I suppose I could have grabbed almost ANY of the numerous trophy shots, I have laying around and since they ALL record about the same skill level as shown in the above shot, I just wanted to keep the record straight.
Sometimes, fame can be a bother you know.

Thanks flybinder and john,
Yes I will probably recover from all of my tendencies to laugh out loud
thankyou for the brotherly love and humor

Having had rather limited experience and modest success I have to add a bit of observation that has come to my mind. Seems as though anyone runnin can go out and slam 20-25 inchers all day long . The real test of a true angler lies in the skill to get a very small fish ( logic dictating that they are much more vicious, ounce for ounce than thier larger counter parts) to get stirred up enough to strike a (comparatively) monsterous sized fly. I dont have photographic proof but I too, in fact, have netted several of these micro-leviathans.
Kudos to you fellow traveler of the road less trodden. Stay to the high road.

Once I load my photos of last weeks trip into the computer I’LL show YOU a small fish. :DBest laugh all weekend:D. Not even sure what type of fish it was.

I’m right there with you. Last time out, I caught several in the sub-6 cm class on a size 10 parachute…

Ed, who puts the finger on fingerlings…

Top this for small fish

I guess the fish is so small I can;t see it.
OR I need to figure out how to get it on the post?
I’ll try later after work
