Frenchy's Meadow

It’s snowing outside so it’s that time of year for planning my summer trip. I’ve fished the 2nd and 3rd meadows of Slough Creek in Yellowstone several times. I have started researching Frenchy’s Meadow on Slough Creek.

I would like to know if the way to get there is up Slough Creek from the Yellowstone campground or if there is a shorter route coming from Cooke City or another trailhead? Also am wondering how this area compares to the sections of Slough Creek within the park (water size, fishing, crowds, wild life, etc).

Fastest way to Frenchy’s is up the Slough Creek trail from the trailhead in Yellowstone Park. It’s a tough hike in from the south and east. I’ve hiked to Frenchy’s and upper Slough Creek several times. It’s probably 14-15 miles up there, but the trail grade is pretty easy.

Here’ s my take on Frenchy’s fishing. There’s a waterfall not too far above Silver Tip Ranch, maybe 13 miles in, and the fishing above the falls, while OK, is nowhere near as good as it is below. There aren’t as many cutts, and they are smaller. Having said this, Frenchy’s scenery is spectacular. IMO, the fishing from the upper meadow ranger station cabin on up to the Park boundary is the best in the entire creek.

Greetings and welcome to the Bulletin Board from a little way up the Interstate.

That’s a great first post. Need to make note of it in case I get over to Yellowstone one of these days. If you need someone to tag along up Slough Creek sometime next summer, give me a heads up.

P.S. You guys are having a brutal late fall over there. Wonder what winter holds in store for your neck of the woods.

Blackdog,

If you’re referring to upstream of the Ranger Cabin at Tongue Creek I agree. I’ve fished it twice. Do you know anything about that campsite? Is it “buggy”?
