Forecast 2 wt.

Will make it short and sweet.
Somebody gave me an old 1492. Thought it’d make a good 2wt. reel. So I built a 2 wt.

Took it out today for a test run. Taking this with a phone was tougher than I thought it’d be. The Tilapia won.

Trying to take a picture while fighting a fish? I would have dropped the phone and broke the rod. That’s a nice clean looking build.

Funny, I just got a 1492 also and going to make up a rod for the wife. Now I just need to get her into a casting class. I tried to teach her with no luck. It was easier training 45 new recruits in Basic Training as a drill sgt. than it is trying to teach fly casting to my wife

The recruits were afraid of you. She isn’t.

A recruit has little recourse against a drill sergeant, a wife on the other hand… Find a Joan Wulff video and get her to watch that it may be a language problem.

Hey, I had to teach my wife to drive a car in the first couple of years we were married. I still have the same wife, 3 week shy of 46 years.

You are the second person to mention catching a tilapia recently. What kind of fly were you using. I thought they were pretty much vegetarians.

In this pond, they occasionally take an olive hair’s ear nymph under a strike indicator. I was chasing bluegill. In a local roadside ditch, I hooked two on a black wooly bugger… But, for the most part, they ignore everything.

I do it all the time on either crystal white or black wooly buggers on my 2wt

If you’ve ever kept cichlids of any sort (to which tribe tilapia belong) you’ll know they’re aggressive regardless of food preferences. Sometimes they just want to kill something.

Nice fish! Looks like I am going to have to try a little harder.

What sizes do you usually use?

Goduster, I sent your photo to a friend who lives in Mesa. He wants details. Did you catch that out of a private pond there?

It’s more the other way around Kevin. I’m afraid of her.

So that’s what they look like. Beautiful fish for sure and tasty
