Fly Tying with Black Bear Fur

Materials

• Hook: Mustad 94845

  Thread: chocolate 6/0 Danville

• Tail: none or you may add tag end

  

  Body: chocolate or hare’s ear dubbing

• Wing: black bear hair roots

• Hackle: none

Instructions

Step 1: Dub body and wrap with SM gold or silver wire for firm wing base
Step 2: Cut wisp of black bear fur 1/8 above skin, mount butts to rear, bind and fold over, drop of cement, dub the head and whip finish.

Fish dry, skitter, or pop under and fish back to you after Leisenring Lift. the wing is kinky and traps air bubbles…

Target species: Trout
Water type: riffle, pools, runs
Season: Spring to Fall…covers darker shades of Caddis…shows well on cloudy days and at dusk when the water has a mirror sheen…

Thankyou so much….bear is inexpensive and readily available and one patch can make a lot of flies…I christened it on a rainy day in my little speckled trout stream and they just hammered it all the way down the riffle… and retrieved submerged, it behaved just like a Usual so you can fish it the same way…
