Fly Tying Benches

(quote);Hate to say it but some just have to have everything even if they will never use half of it in a lifetime—(end quote)

Boy, isn’t THAT, the truth!! Like, ME, for instance! But, I don’t “HAVE to have it”, I may “have it”, because it was given to me,or it came to me through too good of a deal,to pass up,or, yes… I simly wanted it so I bought it, and also…most fly shops aren’t open at 2AM when I might need a chunk of belly hair from an “Ethiopian Goink”,(male).
But, mainly, my tying area looks the way it does and the amount of debris that’s on it,comes simply from around 28 years or so, of tying. You’re just plain going to “accumulate a LOT” in that amount of time!

And, to ME, it pays off in getting to sit down and tie and not finding out, I don’t have “that” particular hackle, or, “that” certain shade of marabou. Again, “2AM is not time to start shopping for it”!!

I also used to teach a lot of the new members in our club, so things sort of “grew” out of that also.
“All this stuff”, needed or not, has come in handy, also, when someone needs something and maybe doesn’t want to buy an entire neck…to get only the Schlappen feathers off the sides of one.
A good friend of mine, here on FAOL, was low on some dry fly hackle colors, so why not share? I split 3 or 4 necks, in half and sent them to him. (I wanted to send him some assorted dubbing, too, but he told me “his wife’s cat was growing him some new inventory, so I needn’t bother”).
There are lots of reasons, some of us “have a lot of stuff”!?!
It’s not, always, “I HAVE to have it”, as for the reason.

Some one else’s kidney. Take a friend out for a few drinks and then operate. 8T

A place for everything, and it would enhance any room in the house…

Didn’t I see one of those in Paul’s room…I mean under all that stuff:D:D:D

I, MIGHT have one of those in here, somewhere… I’ll have to move a couple of thread spools and have a look!?

Halomidge,

Fly tying bench or not, that a fine piece of craftsmanship.

REE

Halomidge, now that is a very nice piece of furniture you have there truly beautiful

Did I miss a speck of dust in the left front?? My materials are in plastic bins in the drawers of the dresser alphabetically by type and color. Am I a bit too anal?? Jim Harper

I wish I owned a Wooten Desk … you’re correct, what used to be an office/mail organizer now goes for 1/4 of a million plus. There’s just something beautiful about that type of craftsmanship!

Wouldn’t it be cool to have that kind of organization available to your fly tying materials ?

RDL,

$250,000. Does that include shipping?

Dave

…that’s what I’m talkin about!!!

HF, I think we have the same supplier!
The only reason mine is clean is 4 dogs with the run of the house. If I don’t put it up, I’ll never find it again.

My set up.

The serving tray keeps stuff from rolling off.

I use a cover from a bulk 100 cd spindle to put the trimmings in, and one from a 50 cd spindle for finished flies.

Kirk

LOL, my guess is no! :stuck_out_tongue:

St. Paul,
So what your saying is you would be able to tie this weeks “Fly of the Week” that calls for WALLABY?!
10. Dubb the thread with a 50/50 blend of Hare saddle fur and Wallaby saddle fur.
Jim

I do have some Kangaroo, in 4 colors, can I substitute?
Heeyyyyyyy wait a second here… YOU’RE from that Island Nation of Ohio, where guys like Oven God and The Buckeye Bandit hang out!?!

Yep, that’s us…besides who else is there to protect the northcoast of these United States from those anglers up north??? As well as keeping all those guys in the east from invading the west. They all got to come thru us!!!:lol::lol:

Yep that us…the proud Island Nation of Ohio protecting without complaning, eating our fudge, baking our bread, and coming up with new dynamite ways to fish.

Jim

Oh my gosh, dribble, dribble… what a wonderful selection… slobber…drip of feathers… I am soooo envious

Jeanne

I agree, Bassman this is a wonderful station, if i lived in the USA I would, without hesitation ask you to make one for me - I would gladly pay the price for a lovely piece of craftsmanship. Well done!

Jeanne

Thanks very much for the compliment Jeanne. I will check in to see what it might cost to mail one to you. They are pretty heavy since I do make them out of Red Oak. John
