I think you guys have more invested in totes and storage than i have in flyfishing altogether. The pics are great tho, I’ll have something to combat when my wife says “Don’t you have enough stuff?” I’ll answer “this guy doesn’t even have enough stuff…”
Beside the obvious beverage benefit I guess I shouldn’t tell you guys that the fridge was initially purchased when the wife blew a gasket when I put nightcrawlers in the upstairs fridge. I kinda like the idea of keeping worms in a fridge in my fly tying area.
It freaks the purists out!

A little secret regarding at least Rubbermaid products. They change designs and styles all the time. If you can’t find closeouts in your local store call their HQ and they can give you a phone number of their closeout center where you can order closeout containers WAY cheap. You need to know the style and size when ordering. That’s how I got my stash. I ordered them by the carton!
BTW - Buy your wife flowers all the time like I do with mine. It’s the cheapest insurance policy there is!
Some of you have more than some of my local ff shops.
My tying bench is my kitchen table (for now). All my supplies are in plastics tubs and stored in the garage. My hope is to build a storage shed in the backyard this summer and have my brother run electricty to it for some lights and outlets.
After seeing Dave’s tying area in the basement I have determined that selling a kidney just won’t cut it. as such I have revised my for sale list. Now for sale:
1 right kidney, very good condition, well cared for
1 left kidney, why buy just the right when you can get the pair!
1 liver lightly used, “preconditioned” with a loving amount of samuel adams
1 first born, yet to be concieved, contact for possible delivery information, date ect…
1 soul this item is in well used condition, slightly soiled, ready for restoration…a great started for those of you who love restoration projects!
No mini-fridge but a well stocked full size fridge on other side of basement. I couldn’t upload the other pictures here as the file was too large, but here is a link to the other pictures posted on The Fly Tying Forum:
I have been examing the px’s of benches and wonder what type of lighting tiers are using? Seems to be lots of different approaches. For me I have a small McKenzie high intensity lamp mounted on a flexible shaft which is itself mounted on the vise shaft. Other than general room lighting thts all i use. How about the other setups?
Obviously the sign of a sick mind if it’s that nice all the time. I actually have a friend whose tying area is always that neat. The sicko puts things away when he’s finished using them, and has a spreadsheet program complete with bin locations for all of his materials. I certainly hope he comesback to the land of the living soon.
I don’t keep worms in Mama’s fridge, but I do have a whole wood duck in the freezer in the garage. It’s wrapped in white butcher paper, so she thinks it’s a roast or something.
Hate to say it but some just have to have everything even if they will never use half of it in a lifetime— I just have to think back to my dad in the 30’s when a couple boxes in the trunk of the car was all he used on the stream and in the house. We tied with the hook in our fingers some yarn, few hackles, silk un waxed thread… I have a tying room in my new house and never need a fifth of some of these pictures. Joe V – Fishbum has a room like yours. Lathe drillpress workbench. Wonder if he is putting his bamboo together on the pool table. BILL
I do make numerous items for fly tying. The wood I usually use is red oak with a clear finish. It is fun to tie and also fun to make a lot of the things I use in my tying. I am not in the buisness of selling desk. I just like to make them. Knowing how much the wood cost me I can see why a lot of people in the buisness charge a lot for their products. So I just try to have fun makeing things. The things I make are not in my opinion up to the quality of some I have seen here but they are functional and well built. Here is another item I make for the desk top. It hold 12 spools of thread, it has 12 containers for hooks or beads. and it has 8 holes for various tools and does not take up a lot of space on the desk. I put felt on the bottom of all my desk top items to protect the desk from scratches. John
