Fly Rod(s) for the Ausable River Fish-In

If you were to attend the FAOL Fish-In on the AuSable River (MI) next August what rod would you build?
It’s only 10 months away guys and I’ve got to plug it any way I can!!
You know what they say about the “Squeeky Wheel”? Everone will be so tired of hearing me Hype this event the’ll come just to shut me up!!

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

Kin I just bring my old dirty cork 3 wgt? It hain’t been a virgin for several years now. Or should I build a new one with a nice clean cork?? <G>

Jack-

If you’re going to the spectacular Blue Ribbon “best in the midwest” flies only water, you surely need a 7 or 8wt rod for all of those glorious trout under every bank, log pile and even in the open stretches. Or you could bring a rod similar to cooked spaghetti for chasing those three inch creek chubs.

Just kidding, I’m sure you’ll get to some great spots. I really like a fast action 3 or 4wt in those parts, but I’ll be trying my 5wt I’m building now next time I get up to Grayling.

now Jack, that is a difficult question to answer…I think I am taking 2 7 1/2’ TFS bamboos in 4 and 5 wts, one TFS bamboo 8’ in 5 wt, a good ole 7 1/2’ SB 290, a couple of 4 and 5 weights in Elkhorn blanks, built to UL specs, and who knows what else…I am pretty sure, however I will spend most of my fishing time with my PHY Perfectionist, that is if I can stay away from Mikeys cooking long enough.
