fly recipes

I was wondering if anyone could post up a couple of recipes for me as the books i have seem to conflict one another.
The flies im interested are Doobry,GRHE and the invicta.
There seems to be so many diffrent tweaks i know it probably doesnt matter that much but i would be interested to see what diffrences other come up with.

Cheers

invicta - http://www.fish4flies.com/Wet/Winged/Invicta
doobry - http://www.danica.com/flytier/aconba/aconba.htm

You could use Google and come up with a bunch more.

Hi Black Pennel,

I’ve not heard of the Doobry, so can’t help you there.

The Invicta is:

Tail: golden pheasant crest
rib : silver wire
Body: yellow seal’s fur
hackle: reddish brown, palmered along body
throat: English Blue Jay wing feathers (the blue ones)
wing : hen pheasant (ringneck) slips, tied low along the body (set in amongst the hackle)
head: red

I believe the GRHE is:
Tail: guard hairs from hare
rib : gold wire
body: dubbed hare’s mask, thicken around the thorax
wing: hen pheasant slips

pick out the hairs in the thorax area to produce legs and to support the fly, doing the job of a hackle.

I’m assuming you mean the traditional dry fly for the GRHE.

P.S. and welcome to the board

BP,

Here’s a little link to a very fine tier here who’s handle is Invicta, just like one of his flies.

Hope you find the site enjoyable. Rob K. (aka Invicta) is a fine tier…

Those flies on Dancia are great i did notice the black pennell was even diffrent to what i would have thought its amazing the diffrence that others put in but call it the same fly i only noticed as its one of my favourite patterns and have researched it a bit but as they say each unto their own:D

There is a very simplistic tye of this fly, just recently posted in the UK which may be interesting to some.

Here is the link to the thread. Being a common pattern it may ring a few bells to some:-

As an aside (not hi-jacking…I never would do that :D) here is a pdf format of the black pennell. Lovely fly - interesting history.

Has he gone again?

Thanks guys some good info the GRHE i was on was like what Loopy posted does it have to be tyed with a bead or can it have a thorax covered wingslip.

P.s i noticed that thread got a little out of hand over the tying of a fly:roll:

McSteff thats some of the reading i also looked at a very fine article.

Fortunately, we NEVER get carried away in out posting of ideas and/or patterns!!

Welcome to the Board, Black Pennell! New guy brings the donuts!!

Does anyone have any pictures of variants af this popular fly or maybe a SBS?

There must be hundreds of ways of tying this fly.
