Hi all…I’m looking for some fly fishing programs to fill in this void I’m feeling…it’s been waaaaaaaaaaay too cold to fish here in South Dakota. So I need my fishing fix. Some say start tying, but I’ll start that next year after grad school. So I’m looking for movies, dvds, tv programs that are all about fly fishing. Your help is appreciated.
Fly Fish TV…just saw an ad for their 2006 stuff…they have dvds…not sure if they are currently broadcasting…web site= [url=http://www.flyfishtv.com:7e726]www.flyfishtv.com[/url:7e726]

I normally Tivo Fly Fishing the World so I can see what some of these “destination” spots look like. I really dislike the whole take the celebrity fishing genre myself.
The latest episode was more of a documentary piece on the producer of the show and it was more entertaining than seeing Liam Neeson cast poorly.
…I really enjoyed “The Complete Angler,
a visual journey for the fly fisherman”
I picked up the DVD a couple months ago. If you’ve never seen it, its truely a feast for the eyes. I think most all fishing shows suffer from a production stand point… Content is one thing, production values are entirely different. The Complete Angler is probably the best i’ve seen…amazing photography, well cut and beautifully paced…it’s not without its corny moments but again content is an entirely different issue…
It was produced for ESPN and won 2 emmys and a peabody award.
The host (james Prosek) travels to England and Ireland retracing Sir Izaak Waltons fishing footsteps that led him to pen the book of the same name…lots of local flavor, beautiful streams, interesting characters and some amazing fishing photography…
I Definatley agree with bhall 15. A river runs through it is an awesome movie, however the book is better. Every saturday morining theres a fly tying show on PBS, called Fly tying: The anglers art. Two people host the show, Leroy Hyatt, and a woman, Can’t remember her name. Comes on at 7:30 A.M., In Northern Idaho. Might only be a local thing, but worth checking in to.

In my opinion, nothing I’ve seen has come close to catching the fun and the soul of the sport like a video by Tom Bie called “Feeding Time.” Great footage of lots of different types of fly fishing and species and a good soundtrack!

Hmmm, I’ll have to keep an eye out for that. I wonder if it’s on in the New York Metro area? I remember a show a few years back with Leroy Hyatt and Dave Engerbretson. I really enjoyed it.
You should go to your library and find any of the books by John Geirach, or any others. The stories beat out the videos for me- except for the tying videos, the casting videos, the strategy videos, the nymphing videos, the…
