Fly Fishing DVD

Watched a short movie at my FF club meeting last night. “Once in a Blue Moon” is the fly fishing adventure of a lifetime. Filmed in New Zealand. I will give it two thumbs up.

I’ve watched the trailer on youtube a bunch of times. I’d love to see the whole thing. It really looks like a great movie.

TT.

Hi Jim, are you tying up a few mouse patterns? That is a very well shot film and I would give it two thumbs up as well.
All the best.
Mike

Mike, I will be bringing mouse patterns as well as some of the patterns I’ve copied from Jeff Hamm. I am really looking forward to our trip to New Zealand on the first of April. Any guides you can lead me to will be appreciated. Jim

Hey jim, if you are going to be in the North Island, in the Auckland area I will take you fishing for a day, or if you are going to be in the Central North Island area I can meet you and show you the local way of doing things for a couple of days. I am not a guide, but I do know the spots and am happy to be of help. We may even be able to twist Jeffs arm into a day trip with us.
In the South Island Chris Dore has a very good reputation and I am sure there are many others who are good. The Owen River Lodge is supposed to be good but I have never stayed there myself.(it is expensive)
Early April could be a bit on the cool side or it could be blazing hot, sometimes on the same day, so you will need to have clothing for both!
Here is a link to a great web site, they have guides by area and also some great access info on many of the rivers in each region.

Yes Sir Mike. We will be flying into Auckland. I like either or both of your ideas. We will be making our reservations by the first of the year so I will let you know then our travel plans and time schedules. We will be renting a vehicle and plan to do a driving/fishing tour of both islands.
Thank you for the offer. You can bet we will see you on your home waters.

Hi,

I’m sure I could be talked into a day or two on the water! Make sure you stock up on bead head hare and coppers, sizes 14-10. Very simple tie. Weighted underbody, gold bead head, dube a fuzzy cone of hare’s mask, rib with copper wire. Very similar to a gold ribbed hare’s ear, but different. It’s a good gender caddis immitation (some dyed to olive are good to have as well). This is probably the single most popular nymph pattern in New Zealand. Many streams can be quite fast flowing, with very deep but short pools, and very heavy flies are all that will get down to the fish. So, if they are hugging the botton and won’t come up to play, you need to be able to get down to them.
