Fly Fishing Antigua and/or Tortola

I’m on a cruise in a couple of months to both ports. Looking for a reasonable fly fishing charter. I will be splitting the boat with my partner.

Looking to fish the flats for Bonz and/or Permit. Tarpon would be a BIG bonus!!

We’ll have 12 hours off the boat in Antigua, 7am to 7pm, so a full day is possible. Tortola is shorter … 7am to 3pm so I’m thinking a half day would be the most we could work in there and make it back to the ship.

Yeah, I could Google 'til my fingers ached but word of mouth is sooooo much more reliable.

Thanks!!!

dont know about antigua, but on tortola try the flats by the airport bones, tarpon, and possibly permit. can do it yourself if you take gear. take a stiff rod, 10-12wt. i had a tarpon break a 9wt blind casting for bones. only guide i heard of is on anigada. can find one on internet

Thanks tealswatr … that’s a start!!

Look up Caribbean Fly Finshing Outfitters located at Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola. 1/2 day rate $450. Never fished with them but are located on Tortola. Try to find out where your ship docks at on Tortola and look around the closer marinas. Good luck

Gils Gone Wild, so how did it go?

My partner and I got picked up at the dock at 8:30am right off the cruise ship.

We motored to a spot where Tarpon were “rolling”. Cast quite a few times to those rascals with no hook-ups. Did bring to hand a few Jacks. They pull hard too.

Left there for some flats. Got out of the boat and waded. Had a handful of shots at some lock-jawed bonefish but alas … :frowning:

Went to another spot, nothing happening at all there so back to the Tarpon spot. And you guessed it … a few more Jacks. haha!!

All in all a wonderful trip. The boat ride around that gorgeous island alone would have been worth the trip.

The two young guides we went with … well, the guide and a mate … were both born on Antigua and have been fishing there all their lives. Nice guys. Tipped them well for the drinks, fruit and a great day on the water … oh, and the Jacks!! haha!!

I’ll see if I can put a pic or two on a server and post it.

Again … GORGEOUS place.

im headed to antigua the 10’th of december, can you give me some info on how to contact the guide service, and what kind of tackle i would need

thanks

john52948,

Give me a couple of days … I’ll get ahold of my travel agent. I’m SURE she logged all the info on these guys somewhere! There aren’t a lot of fly fishing guides there but these fellows were great in my opinion!

thanks gils gone wild.

did you bring your own gear ??

Hey John,

Yes, I took my own gear. I did see fly rods in the boat the guide took us out on. Anyway, here’s his “name” and phone number should you decide to call. He said there isn’t a lot of fly fishermen/women on the island.

“JD” is what he goes by. Call him at 1-268-726-4255.

p.s. Sorry this took so long. My travel agent thought I was talking about a snorkel trip we took on St Thomas. Gave me the number to that excursion!!! So after going back and forth with her … :-/ HA!!

hey gils, thanks i had given up on you.

thanks for the info, ill let you know how it goes
