What is your favorite fly box? I don’t really have a favorite now but soon I will have a shiny new C&F. Who do you think makes the best box hands down for say trout flies and such…

I make a pretty handy one out of Altoids tins and foam. They work for me, and I can’t beat the price.
I personally love the Rosecreek Anglers flyboxes. They make 4 or 5 types in plastic and also aluminum. I have both types. Great product!!

I’d have to say right now my favorite is the medium sized (6" or so) black Okuma with flat foam on one side and 16 windows on the other. This is followed closely by my CF Design “threader box”.

I know they are way, way overpriced, but I’m still a big fan of Richard Wheatley fly boxes. There is just nothing out there, in my opinion, that is as pretty as nicely tied Catskill dry flies in a Wheatley compartment box.
Of course they are heavy and expensive and there are probably much more practical boxes out there, but I still love my Wheatley’s.

I had an all foam box that I dropped in the water and soaked all my flies. I switched to C&F waterproofs. They are great, especially if you have someone buy them for you as presents!
My favorite fly box, is one that is full of flies, that I can use to go fishing.

I like my two plastic two-sided Planos for warmwater flies. Small compartments on one side and a foam side on the other. The second one is the same but has large slot compartments on the other side rather than the foam.
I have four fly boxes for trout, one is a Scientific Anglers with two foam sides, one is a small Plano with a single foam side, one is a small Skykomish Flies with two foam sides, and one is a zippered fly wallet with sheepskin pads (unused due to its cosmetic value). I don’t really have a favorite trout fly box. All are very serviceable for me. The only one I don’t like is the metal fly boxes with the internal spring loaded lids because the one I had corroded badly (maybe the new metal ones have solved the corrosion problem). Guess that’s why all my fly boxes are now plastic except the unused wallet one.

I?ll vote for the C&F Waterproof boxes. Especially when used in saltwater. In regular boxes your flies will eventually rust from the salt air. Also they float. Last Spring while in Belize and making a fast run in a flats boat, one of my boxes flew out of the boat. We turned around and after about ten minutes of searching, spotted the bright green box floating in the surf. Figure I saved about $60.00 or more in flies.
I have a number of fly boxes but my favorite is my Wheatly 32 compartment fly box. I always wanted one of those and finally broke down a few years ago and got one.
I’ve got a compartmented Okuma box with foam in the lid that I like very much for dry flies. For streamers and wets I really like the leather fly wallet I just got for Valentines Day. I know there are other, better, boxes out there than a wallet, but they are so old scholl I really wanted one. It looks great full of steelhead and salmon flies. Now where did my wife put my fishing tweeds?
Just to be fair, my wife got a 6 wgt Elkhorn spey rod and a reel for Valentines Day.

I also remain a fan of the Wheatley boxes. I have one with twelve compartments on one side and and spring clips on the other. I use it for dries and nymphs. Only cost about $40 when I bought it over 20 years ago. I have another small swingleaf Wheatley that I use for wet flies. In plastic boxes I like the Myran boxes. The Cabela’s Wheatley knockoffs are not bad either. No foam for me.
I have to agree with the Okuma box with the 16 windows on one side and flat floam on the other. Very functional design and still has the Wheatley “old school” feel. Larger flies don’t fit well in that box but for the trout flies I use(rarely larger than size 12)it’s wonderful. Got one in silver and one in black.
Definitely C&F for the purposes I have in fly fishing. The 12 row flip page box (has four pages of 6 rows) is awesome as a midge box. It holds over 500 of my midge patterns which can be nice and overwhelming at the same time.
I bought some Bug Luggage and am starting to really like them. I may end up buying 2 or 3 more of them.I’m getting rid of all my older Scientific Angler foam boxes. My son and grandsons are inheriting a few patterns to use locally, too. I like the slots the Bug Luggage has. I’ve been known to drop a box or two and take more than a spill every once in awhile and it seems the Bug Luggage holds very well.

Seems that “old guys” like Bug Luggage…I’m with MadDog, I have three Bug Luggage Trout model boxes - I use them for nymphs, drys and terrestials. All nicely separated, easy to see for selection and they load/unload really well in sizes 16 up to 6. I don’t know how they’ll last over the years but we’ll see.

I like the Cliff boxes. I have a Days Worth and the Big Cliff. They have foam strips and magnetic areas and the prices are much better than the C&Fs
I have to put my 2 cents in for the new S/A System X boxes. Received a couple for Christmas and love the concept. You can get 4 different interchangeable inserts, the boxes are waterproof,(very important for sometime swimmers) and the size is almost perfect for the large pockets of my vests, and jackets.
