Flies for Fishing Sanibel Florida in March

Hey all,

I am going to Sanibel Fl. with my family in 2 weeks for my March Break. I was wondering if anyone could reccomend some good flies to bring. I normally get a guide(Capt. Joey Burnsed) and we always catch fish with him, but we seem to have trouble finding the fish on our own. Any reccomendations or suggestions on spots on or near the Island will be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

RL

Rent some kayaks at Ding Darling & bring some crab flies, clousers in chartreuese over white & some EP baitfish patterns on #2-4 hooks, or stop at Lee Island Outfitters, south side of Summerlin ( the road to Sanibel )& look over the fly selection. Easy do-it -yourself fishing :!: 8)

I had good results with a fly that was recommended to me. No picture but maybe somebody will recognize the
description.

Mustad 3407 size 2 to 4.
Tail : White marabou
Body : Pearl Ice chenille, or similar.
Eyes : Black Mono
Head : Red thread

Worked well in Tarpon Bay as well as the surf later in the summer for snook.

Up around the Baltimore-DC areas river fishing they are Krystal Buggers, for Floridas’ saltwater they’re Krystal Schminnows :!: 8)

Schminnows! I almost said that but wasn’t sure if it was right. Thanks

One of my favorites and very easy to tie.

Funny that the link for tying the Schminnow is at Front Range Anglers ! My cousin, who lives in the Boulder area, has been fishing these for bass in the ponds along the front range with my Dancin Daves’for years! Guides have their secret flies, that occassionally can be bought on stream for a six-pack by desperate fly rodders :!:  8)

This one fell to a schminnow!

Are there snook in 'bama :?:

That was in Sanibel, and no there aren’t Snook in Alabama’s Gulf Coast. How I wish there were. I have such a blast catching them. Next to smallmouth I think they are my favorite fish.
