Flank feathers

In my youth I shot a few ducks and recall the flank feathers (on the body sides?)were more distinctively marked, less cupped and longer than the breast feathers. Today, it seems that the terms are used interchangeably. Can someone bring me up to speed ?

Ray,

I guess you and I are traveling in the slow lane. That’s a new one on me. Saline solution implants into the flanks to make them look more like breasts, perhapsG?

Somebody know about this?

Allan

Yeah Ray, I’m with you. They are really two different things where a mallard is concerned. The larger, flatter feathers are the flank feathers ( on the sides of the body ), the smaller cupped feathers are the breast feathers. They do look a lot alike, but to me, they’re two very different things. The terms should not be used interchangeably.

Flank feathers vs breast feathers…big difference…
