Fishpond Doublehaul pack

Checked it out at yesterday’s flyfishing show. Hard to judge it’s true comfort and funtionality without having it loaded up with gear. I currently use one of the older LL Bean chest packs with the cargo harness. I like the bean but it constantly rides up in front. The newer chest packs seem to address this issue. Anyone have any opinions on it?

Thanks…Rich

I’m suprised no one has offered you any feedback. I’m not in a position to be able to do so, haven’t used the product. But I do recall reading on a few boards that the product was very well recieved and thought out…

I have the double-haul, have been using for over a year now.

I love it, the right combination of size in the back and storage up front. The ability to hold a hydration bladder and not take up space in the backpack portion - where I usually pack lunch, camera, rain jacket, etc.
The whole pack rides high enough as to stay dry when wading in waist deep water.

My only complaint, although minor, is the front fly storage is not hard-cased. If you load the pouches behind the fly compartment, which I do, it smashes the hackles on the flies. My friend has the Fishpond Gore Range vest, both fly storage compartments have hard cases.

Hope this helps,
Chris

The double haul is a great pack. It is by far the best selling pack I carry, out of the Fishpond and William Joseph lines. That is the only complaint I have heard yet…and its pretty minor.

Caster,

I hope that didn’t come across as a negative review of the double-haul. I absolutely love it and would highly recommend it to anyone!

I am just curious why the Gore Range had hard case fly comprtments, while the double-haul’s was soft. I simply use the fly compartment for nymphs and keep the dries in a box by themselves.

I have the fishpond shooting star, which is a little bit larger version of the double-haul. I have only had it out once, but was extermely pleased with it. The detachable chest pack makes the whole set up very versatile dependent on the conditions/place/set-up in which you are fishing. Ease of use and fuctionality were my two top priorities when making the purchase, and i cant say that i am disappointed in either department. It does come with a decent price tag, but i am one of those who cant stand a vest and have bouncing around to several differnt vest/chest pack contraptions. It looks so far like this has settled it for me!

Thanks for info guys. I will be buying the Doublehaul. I’m not too concerned about the fly patch. I more than likely will be using the front compartment for other things. I pretty much carry one flybox now… the big C&F with 12 compartments on one side and slit foam on the other. Sometime I carry a second smaller box with hoppers or midges. I think this pack serve the purpose.
